Clarify Stand on Kashmir's Territory: Omar to PDP

Jammu, Feb 13 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Sunday asked the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to clarify its stand on the territorial integrity of the state after the party showed a part of the state inside China.

Abdullah told newsmen on the sidelines of a police function here Sunday: "It is for the PDP to clarify the stand on the (geographical) status of the state."

He was answering a question on the PDP's power point presentation in Srinagar on Saturday showing the map of Jammu and Kashmir superimposed on foreign currency notes showing the state divided into three parts, one with India, another with Pakistan and a third with China.

"While we want the borders and the Line of Control to become irrelevant where people can freely move from one part to the other, but the gifting away (on the map to any other country) is unacceptable."

Abdullah, who belongs to the National Conference, was also greatly angered by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti drawing parallels between the Kashmir protests of 2010 with that of the Egyptian revolt that led to the stepping down of Hosni Mubarak as president there.

Saturday's press conference of the PDP has heightened the war of words between the two political parties in the state.

Political leaders go to any extent to grab power even at the expense of territorial integrity because in our country there are ignorant and arrogant masses who can be easily fooled. How can the PDP leaders exhibit the map of Kashmir with one part of the state in Pakistan and another in China?. Also, how Mehbooba Mufti can ask people of that state to revolt against the elected government so that army can take over as in the case of Egypt? These leaders to be arrested.
And where are our patriots? No leader has uttered a word so far on this matter.
