Panaji: Study reveals unemployment higher than national average

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, May 3: The past three months has witnessed increased unemployment in the state and stood at 15.5 percent in April, up from the 11.6 percent unemployment rate in January, monthly data published by the Centre for Monitoring of Indian Economy (CMIE) showed.

The data from the independent think-tank reveals that the prevalence of unemployment in Goa is higher than the national average.

The independent research firm pegged the country's unemployment at 7.8 percent in April from 7.6 percent in March.

Appropriately, 9 lakh of Goa's population is in the employable age bracket of 20-59, which would suggest that around 1.4 lakh Goans remain unemployed.

Rohan Khaunte, minister for information and technology and Atanasio Monserrate, labour minister have expressed concern about Goa's unemployed youth on earlier occasions.
