Mangalore, Feb 15: Muslim brethren from all over Dakshina Kannada district have been celebrating Eid- E- Miladunnabi on Tuesday February 15. They offered mass prayers and greeted each other on the festive occasion at the Idgah at the Light House Hill Road in the city and various other mosques all over the district today morning.

Prayer meets and religious discourses too have been organized in mosques to celebrate the occasion. On this day, people introspect on their past deeds and look for the ways to improve their behaviour towards becoming better human beings.

The day is celebrated to honour the birth and also the death of Prophet Mohammed. Coincidentally, the birth and death of Prophet Mohammed falls on the same day, and hence, instead of celebrating the day in a grand manner, people indulge themselves mostly in religious and social activities.

A grand procession was taken from Boobuka Masjid in the city via Golikatte Circle, Azizuddibn Road and Car street, to the Dargah at the Light House Hill here, in this connection.

Al Madrasa Tul Azaria president Yenepoya Mohammed Kunhi, vice-president, Haji SM Rashid, former mayor, K Ashraf, and secretary, Haneef Haji, were present.

The procession was guided by Mangalore Social Service Centre.

Our prophet Mohammed R.S.A. never asked us to celebrate his birthday. Moreover, he never celebrated birthdays of his predecessors (previous prophets). So, this may go against his teachings or practice. We are not sure whether Allah and our prophet accepts such acts. So, better to leave all this kind of innovations to avoid punishments from Allah if this constitutes ‘ sin ‘ . So, we should be careful and cautious. No need to follow those ‘maulanas’ blindly. See if there is any valid quran Aayat or Hadis in support of it. Then you will come to know. May Allah guide all of us.

Felix-Ksa has no knowledge of the Catholic faith, that is why he says  Catholics are worshipping the creations instead of the Creator. Felix tries to criticise Catholics for their faith which is not true.  Catholics worship only the Creator in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three persons in one God. This may sound crazy to non-christians but we believe in our faith. All the others - Mother Mary Saints, Prophets and Holy Men and Women are venerated only and not worshipped. If Felix does not understand the meaning between worship and veneration, then he did not attend Catechism Classes in his childhood. That shows his lack of understanding of his own faith.

Thank you for your clarifications. In my understanding, Only Islam has a proper understanding Of worshiping only the creator as compared to the followers of other faiths, where it is common to see creations being honoured/worshipped and feasts being celebrated.

Yes it is true as as brother Ibrahim said, there are many local faiths & celeberations are added in Islam & we can do nothing."

This can be seen in my own religion (Catholic) where localisation of religion has added so many feasts of saints etc, that the followers hardly know, who is the creator and who are the creations.

Dear brother Felix, Thanks for real quistion and Thanks for Shanawaz & Ibrahim giving right answer. Let me claryfy more. Our prophet born on 12th Rabil Awal, but it not clear as some hadith mention that 10th Rabul Awal, some say other date, but our beloved prophets death was on 12th Rabiul Awal & there is no confuse. Now we celeberate as Eid milad (birthday) & meantime it was death day as well, so how can we celeberate on this day. Well as brother ibrahim said, there is many local faiths & celeberations are added in Islam & we can do nothing. Let them enjoy & nice pics are recalled our sweet memorys of our childhood. God bless all of us.

    Brother Felix
Muslims all over the world dearly love the Prophet Muhammad[pbuh]. He is highly respected amongst the Muslims as well as non-Muslims.
But is this love only limited to decorating mosques with green flags and lights, and taking processions and Disturbing the ordinary people's life by blocking roads etc which is against the teaching of Islam. Moreover Most historians are silent about the exact date of birth of the Prophet [pbuh],even though if its proved there is no Evidence for celebrating the Birth day in such a manner.
The only authentic narration regarding the birth day of the Prophet(saw)has been narrated in (SahihMuslim)concerning the fasting on Mondays.Abu Qatada Ansari(R.A)reported that Prophet(pbuh)was asked about fasting on Monday, whereupon he [saw]said:It is the day when I was born and revelation was sent down to me.[Maliks Muwatta6:2606].
So if the Muslims Really Love their Prophet. They should Celebrate his birth day by fasting on Monday's.
Further More the companions and the Relatives of the Prophet(pbuh) did not practice such an event during his Life time or after the Death. The Muslims have no festivals apart from Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adhaa.
"Philosopher,Orator,Apostle, Legislator,Conqueror of Ideas, Restorer of Rational beliefs.. The founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire that is Muhammad(pbuh). As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask,is there any man greater than he?LaMartain

    Dear Felix/KSA.

Gud question. Let me clear it to you. Islam believes in only one God and only the God is eternal and all praises are due to Him only. Islam forbids any cult or persona gratification. Islam is not the religion founded by Mohamed (PBUH). Its the religion of the first man on earth i..e. Adam and all prophets have been asked by God to teach and practice Islam which beleives in one ness of God. Adam is the first prophet of Islam and Mohamed is the last of all prophets. Jesus, Moses, David, Krishna, Buddha all are prophets who practiced and preached oneness of God. But the followers of prophets before Mohamed have have taken their prophets as divinely and attributed heavenly and divine qualities to them and drawn similarites with God who has sent them to the human race just to guide them. So Islam certainly doesnt want to glorify Mohamed who is just a messenger more than what he deserves to be and doesnt want to attribute divine qualities to him. If Islam gives the permission to celebrate the birth anniversaries of prophets, then all muslims should celebrate the anniversay of all prophets right from Adam till Jesus as muslims must believe in all the prophets and not only in Prophet Mohamed. If glorification of mortal soul is allowed, with the passage of time, these mortal souls shall be given the image and qualities of God and people shall take these mortal souls for worship besides the Creator. So worship n glorify the Creator and not his creations.

    Dear Felix F.,, India/Ksa,
You are right there are only 2 Eids to celebrate [Eid ul Adha and Eid ul Fitr] for a muslim but what to say.....in subcontinent people have there own rules & views on islam.
A muslim to be called as Muslim should follow on Quran & Hadeeths [the word of Allah and the sayings of Prophet] but people assume and bring their own theories or whatever you say in the religion which is not correct. May Allah give us patience and show them the right path of success. The best way to follow islam is how the companions of prophet followed.
please go through this because i think this eid is an innovation in the religion- "The best word is the Book of Allâh and the best way is that of Muhammad ( !). The worst deed is innovation and each innovation is a deviation from Islaam." [Sahih Muslim: (vol. 2, p. 410, no. 1885).]
"Every deviation from Islaam leads to Hell-fire". [Sunan Nasa’i: English Translation: (vol. 2, pp. 343-4, no. 1581.)]
‘Aayshah reported that the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam said: "Whoever does an act which is not in agreement with our faith, such an act is rejected." [Sahih Al-Bukhari: (vol. 3, no. 861.).]
"Allâh has given you better than those feasts: the ‘Eid-ul-Adh-haa (Feast of Sacrificing), and ‘Eid-ul-Fitr (feast of Breaking the fast)." [Sunan An-Nasaaee: English translation: (vol. 2, p.333, no. 1559), Sunan Abu Dauwud: English translation: (vol. 1, p.293, no. 1130). It is authenticated by Shaykh Al-Albaanee in Saheeh Sunan Sun

Being in Saudi Arabia, I asked my Muslim friends, why Eid Milad is not celebrated in Saudi Arabia.

I was told, in Islam only two Eid`s are celebrated. Eid Al Milad is not to be celebrated.

Any one could throw some light on this, subject will be much appreciated. thank you.

First of all let me wish all our Muslim brothers & sisters a Holy Milad-u'Nabi or Eid-Milad. On this auspicious day it is better to have some healthy religious recital competition and distribution of sweets and food inside the premises of the mosques/madrasas but should not take the traditional procession which is disturbing the movement of people and vehicles. During the olden days the sleepy towns/villages were less busy and people too were at their leisure holiday mood with fewer responsibilities. But in these modern congested cities/towns/villages they cannot afford to accommodate such long processions in those narrow roads. Be positive, be constructive and spend the forenoon with more charitable as well as religious functions and prize distributions to the winners which is more peaceful and admirable.
