Bangalore, Feb 18: Ronald Colaco, Chairman of International Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations (IFKCA)  submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa  on 17th February, 2011, requesting  him to withdraw cases  registered against Christian youth  after the attack on places of worship in 2008.  Colaco along with Higher Education Minister V S Acharya took a delegation to the Chief Minister and submitted the memorandum  that contained complete details of a total of 26 cases filed against 338  Christians during the incidents that occurred after the attack of churches  in Dakshina Kannada by  miscreants.

The delegation comprised Valerian Fernandes, Chairman of FKCA Bangalore, Felix D Souza,  social activist from Mumbai, Dennis D Silva, state convener of   IFKCA,  Michael Baptist, General Secretary IFKCA, Antony Swamy  IFKCA coordinator, Prashanth Jathanna, coordinator of IFKCA, Udupi unit representing CSI churches  and Stanly from Kolar.

The delegation  reminded the Chief Minister of the assurances he had given on two occasions earlier -  on 31st January, 2009 and on 19th December 2010, in the  esteemed presence of former Dy Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani, in Mangalore,   to withdraw  cases filed against these youth.  The delegation   apprised the Chief Minister  about the ‘on the spot’ decision he had conveyed on both these occasions to withdraw cases against the youth and had even advised his Principal Secretary to complete the necessary formalities in this regard, but nothing has been done in this regard so far.

The delegation had met state Home Minister R Ashok  along with former President of All India All Colleges Principals Association on February 16, 2011 and submitted a memorandum requesting the withdrawal of cases giving full details of all the 338 persons against whom cases were filed.

Colaco impressed upon the Home Minister about the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incidents in the aftermath of the unprovoked attack on 22 churches of  Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts and said the Christians were forced to come to the streets to express their anguish, grief and grievances.

He also explained to the Home Minister that all Christians have a good track record as law abiding and peace loving people without any criminal record  and the unfortunate incident after the attack on churches was the result of sudden outburst of expressing their anguish.  Home Minister R Ashok directed his IGP Intelligence,   to furnish all details pertaining to these cases and assured that he will bring the issue of withdrawal of cases  before the cabinet for approval soon.

Responding to the issue of forced conversion  raised by the  Home Minster  Colaco convinced the him saying  that there cannot be forced conversion of anyone unless the person in question  decides himself/herself  to do so  in the mind, the heart and the body.  Colaco also brought to the notice of the Home Minister the services rendered by the Christian Missionaries  in the field of education, health  care and social service in the last 150 years at a time when education was  available only to a miniscule  section of the society.

The delegation had also met Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister I.N.S Prasad along with Additional Secretary and Private Secretary Dayashankar on  February  15,  and they promised  to complete the formalities  soon to  bring the matter to the consideration of the cabinet.

Denis D Silva, State convener of IFKCA  had obtained all details  from  several police stations through RTI, pertaining to the 338 people against whom cases have been registered.  This information helped the delegation to provide complete details of these  people to the Chief Minister and the Home Minister.
IKFCA Chairman Ronald Colaco had approached ministers  like Janardhana Reddy, Shree Ramulu, Karunakar Reddy, Ramdas,  Dr V S Acharya, Murugesh Nirani and  Basavaraj Bommai  and sought their support   in withdrawing these cases when the matter comes before the cabinet.

All the ministers promised their support in this matter  and assured the delegation that they would  do their best  when the matter comes before the cabinet.

When you write openly from a non-Christian background, exposing the contribution of the minority
Christians of India in education and social services, that can open the eyes of many Hindus.

It is not the educated and peace loving Hindus causing any problem to the Christians, but the wayward
radical leaders simply sowing the seeds of anti-minority spirit among the Hindus.

I pray that God may raise many great people like you to shout from the mountaintop.

    Dr Radhakrishna,
I salute you for taking courage to telling the truth. After reading your comments my eyes become wet.You have analysed the matter so beautifully.God Almighty bless you.Really your comments touching the hearts of the readers.By God's Grace you were present at the time of the incident.Holy spirit made to write from Hindu friend.Your writing is enough to change the hearts and understand the reality.Breaking the Garbha Gudi and stamping the living God openly is cruel act.It is natural that the youths were instigated to react.
Sad part of the story is that these youths were victimised. They are young and most of them are from poor back ground. They can't take up jobs because of offense.Neither they do passport to take up the jobs outside the country. They are suffering since more than two years. Is there any justice?

Your consciously elaborative heartbreaking lengthy truthful comment in my opinion you have diagnosed without antibiotic because you are knowing the truth. I am a Christian compelled to write here that I am making a draft month wise to a Hindu who is an illiterate hard worker gives his hard earned money to me to send to his house. Many a times I have to stand on a Q and should make registered post to his house. Why? Because he trusts me and I never breach his trust and this is my help to the helpless.

Dr. Radhakrishna, , Mangalore/ UK. May God Bless you abundantly. A Brilliant analysis and a fitting reply to the handful of hard core elements who spew poison in their comments. I am appalled that supposedly educated people believe that the core job of the Christians is conversion - what for ? We don't believe in numbers - Christianity is a way of live - every good Christian is an example of God - further unless one has conviction and true faith a convert cannot be termed as converted just because he has his name changed. Let the almighty - Ram - Allah or Yesu Bless our dear India and its citizens.

NOWHERE in my query I have justified the attacks of any nature. Nor I have passed judgement on any community. My only concern is on the misguided youth, waiting to be off the police records!

It's a fact that NO ONE is a catholic, hindu, mulsim or sikh by choice. It's only by birth.

Neither gods can force one to into believing in him by force. It has to happen in one's heart. And when this happens, don't attack in self defense esp. the weaker sections.

If money can convert people, common buy me! My religion might be sold but not my faith.

Guys, don't be fanatics! Don't allow the religion to come out of kitchen because it is dangerous beyond that... Try to be a human being first, then you'll care for the society & it's ultimate good. And this good is nothing but GOD!

Dr. Kiran. What are your credentials that you openly opposing the actions of those besieged victims of fanatics of known outfit that you are silent upon ? Is it because the victims belong to a different & utter minority community ? Where are your true human values or true nationalism for that matter ? We being part of majority Hindus forming more than 80% of Indian population let us learn to respect & secure those in utter minority, probably at 2% but yet mainly responsible for pioneering in education, health care, social service upholding human values that resultant of overall economic development of our country today.

My sincere advise to my fellowmen back home that we stop accusing christians for forcible conversion of Hindus. If the intentions of the christian missionaries were to convert hindus to their religion, then by now christian population would have exceeded 70% since they have been running tens of thousands educational institutions all over India for more than 150 years involving millions of students that even if they had resorted to convert 2% every year of these students as it was easy earlier & their population would not have remained around 2% only since 50 years. On the contrary, many christians from european countries, mostly millionars, have converted to Hinduism & have become the followers of Satya Sai Baba & Hare Rama Hare Krishna mission contributing millions of dollars, euros, & uk pounds thus enriching our Hindu community. I donot see any christian organisation protesting against these conversions. By the way there can never be any forced convertion since the person so called  forcibly converted is free to pray to any God, worship any statue, go to any temple or church or mosque & who the hell on earth can keep track or controll on such or any other persons for that matter ? If that being the reality, where is the question of forced conversion ? I am writing this because all attrocities from our Hindu outfits claiming due to forced conversions.

    3. As for your third question, & as far as I know, these christians in India have clean track record as peace lovers & law abiders. Their highly valuable contributions in the field of education, health care & social service including taking care of all abandoned Leprosys irrespective of cast or creed proves beyond any doubt their patriotism, nationalism & true human values. As such,& being a true Hindu Brahmin educated through out in christian Institutions including  from St Johns Bangalore & without getting obligated, I can say that they can never join hands with any anti social / anti National elements that you are claiming for. Many join when there is a protest against injustice by any section of society which do not amounts to anti nationalism. Political Parties including our BJP organising Bandh & strikes, inspite of in ruling of the State & causing Loss to the the human lives & properties, hardship to the citizens, those involved in the destruction of Holly places of worship of any community for that matter can be classified as an act of Anti National, Anti Human, Anti Univrse & Anti God invoking his curse. By the way Myself & my entire family have been voting for BJP so far. Now I have taken a different stand as I am ashamed of what is happening especially during our BJP rule !

4.My dear brother Dr. Kiran Acharya, you are blaming christian religious leaders for their behaviour during C.M's visit, knowing well it is a sudden outburst from a beleaguered person incharge of religious places whose 22 churches were just then attacked & destroyed & at the same time sorrowing worshipers were provoked & then victimised stating that they attacked the police ? What you would have done if you were a religious leader under similar circumstances ? You think you would have carried a garland & welomed C.M. with a broad smile in a mourning situation created from such heinous or rather attrocious act from known fundamentalists & Police too are siding & shielding them ?

Dear Dr Kiran Acharya , I am a moderate Brahmin Indian unlike you & well aware of incidents as I was on Vacation In Milagress itself during church attack. I have answer to your questions & few questions from my side too.

    1. When churches were attacked, alter (gharba gudi) was thrown to the street & publicly stamped by feet by the miscreants from Bajrangdal as claimed responsibility by Mahendra Kumar, the then State Convener of the outfit, Do you need any other people to instigate the innocent youth to come to the srreet to express their sorrows, grievences or anguish against this unholly & cruel act ? Which God is going to give Vimukthy from his curse that U R silent upon ? ! Moreover, the Police, instead of pacifying the gathering, chose to chase them & I am the eye witness to the police brutality both at Milagress & Kulsekar beating even nuns, women & small children with my vedio recordings that I am ready to share on any public platform during my next trip to Mangalore & this might embaress you & those people that you are silent upon !

    2. You appear to be educated enough to read the Interim vs. Final Report of Justice Somashekar Commission which is 180 digree turn around. Further it is also confirmed from Mahendra Kumar's repentence & public statements published after his release from the Jail. Now don't make a story that Mahendra Kumar was purchased by some other political party to destroy or attack 22 churches within a span of 90 minutes in two districts without his organisational support !

Therefore protesting against injustice is one thing & pleading for the release of innocent circumstancial victims is another thing entirely. Your dubious stand in the matter is  clearly exposed ! Why are U so cruel & sarcastic about Christians who are mainly responsible in educating millions of people irrespective of cast or creed including downtrodden in India since hundreds of years. As a resultant, we see today overall economic development of our country with well educated Indian People all over the world. What would have happend if these christian missionaries had not openned up the schools of learning in India's nook & corner at a time when India was governed by Gurukulashram system where education had become the sole property of we Brahmins & Rajputs & all other communities were denied of learning. May I suggest you read Ramayana & Mahabharat for these facts ?

Your thought very much represent your religious leaders, this is the thinking of Church hierarchy because they have been forbidden from Rome to indulge in any active politics or to be the members of a registered political party. Yet they wield a lot power suppressing the ordinary Christian. As a lay person you seem to be not able to think out of the box. Your community is good in the field of education health and social work. Tell me a single achievement in the field of leadership or politics. There is none. It saddens me. Kuldeep Kamath, India, any political party or outfit which has religious name like Hindu, Muslim, Christians, Sikh if any should not be allowed. This is not at all a healthy sign. Personally I resist any move by IFKCA to form any political party. First of all, u should not forget we are Indian first and Christian afterwards.
Better to align with mainstream political party rather to register a political party under religious banner which is unhealthy and not at all good sign.
Request leaders never and ever have this notion of registering this entity of forming political party.

Whether cases would be withdrawn is left to the system to decide. However some questions remain:

    1. Where are the people who instigated the innocent youth to attack Policemen on duty?
    2. Why have protests all over the state over Justice Somashekara report, while on the other hand pleading for dropping the cases against the youth?
    3. Why christian organizations are joining hands with anti social/ anti national organizations like Komu Sauharda Vedike etc.,
    4. Why blame CM for not meeting Bishops, don`t you all know the behavior of these religious leaders during earlier meeting?

For the good of the Christen Community and the Indian Nation IFKCA must registered it self as a national political party. Then not only all Christens but all people who hold values such as honesty, service, peaceful co existence and unity will join. Presently Congress party and BJP are fighting for your vote bank. Once under Mr. Colaco such a party is registered then the community has much better chances to be recognized for all the good work it is rendering with out any discrimination. When bishops come in the open and protest that highlights the issue of conversion.

It was indeed the right approach by IFKCA under the leadership of Mr Ronald Colaco. A red salute to Prof. Radhakrishna a secular leader who has also accompanied the team for a just cause. I thank our Chief Minister Mr B.S. Yediyurappa, Home Minister Mr R. Ashok and Higher Education Minister V.S. They seem to have taken the first step with their assurances for taking a positive decision in the cabinet meeting. Thanks to all the ministers who have assured their support for withdrawing the cases. All this was possible because the appeal has come from a person none other than Mr Colaco who is well known to them and everyone for his noble works and his charity to people of all casts community and faiths. We should also thank the Principal Sec. to C.M. Mr I.N.S. Prasad, Addl. Sec. & P.Sec. to C.M. Mr Dayashankar who have assured completion of the formalities as soon as possible.

IFKCA could take up this task and represent it to the Chief Minister & concerned particularly because of the hard work & efforts put in by Mr Denis D'silva of IFKCA who in a short span of time has gathered the right statistics of all incidents & cases booked which can help the authorities to take a positive decision in this matter at an early date. We hope that the Governments decision to withdraw the cases will come within a couple of days.

Politicians must be human. Indian constitution is equal to all hence who ever it may be must learn to respect the constitution. If Chief Minister continues his dual policty a day will definately come for him to repent for his doings. Do not forget. All the politicians belong to all the parteis are corrupt. There is no place for human feelings, for equality. Today in the world if any community is there who lives peacefully - it is christian community- I with a bang say No other community today on the earth living calmly, peacefully with respect for others around them. It is all because of good education they provide in catholic institutes and Catholic Churches. Now slowly and gradually this is also getting spoiled in this christian community due to the influence of non catholic, illiterate and fool people. Let all be aware that we will win with truth and calm nature. Let all be human then everything will be alright. Let all us know that we have even right to live. Religion and places of worship are secondary. Understanding, respect and brother hood is important. Richness comes and goes but understanding and cooperation yields better future.

srinivas, karkala/bangalore Thursday, February 17, 2011 Colaco can be seen polite when dealing with the CM. The way in which Arch Bhishop dealt with CM was completely different

Srinivas -Arch Bishop & Colaco are 2 different humans are acted with thier own capacity for justice. You exprese your thoughts are valid one but just your opinion. I may have great equal thought for both Arch bishop & Colaco. Both these people are great hero's and well respected humans. One day you may need their help never know.

Pic # 8 of CM's face reveals his mind and heart.Should all these cases pertained to Sanghparivar he would do it in smiling face!

Politician's civil and criminal cases were withdrwan with out any halla gulla by Yeddy's cab(Reddy and others)then why these poor citizens who were defended their place of worship cahrged as law breaker?BJP has to pay for all it's double std in the long run.It was promised to withdrwa all cases pertaining to Church attacks of Christians in front of BJP suprimo Mr Adwani then why CM mum on that till now ?Where is Mr OSKAR FERNADES?We hope Mr Colaco's represntation will bring some solace to aggrived Christian brothers.

It's a great initiative from Mr. Ronald colaco by taking the delegation to Chief Minister regarding Church attack of 2008. He is a real model for youth. The reason for which I say that with his own interest and with genuine concern towards the youth he took the issue with the CM. One of my friend is facing the trial in the court since 2008. He is just 20 years of old. He is not able to get his passport due to the cases which are in court . Now MR. Ronald Colaco taken the personal interest and spent His valuable time of 3 days to meet the CM and Home Minister of Karnataka . We need to congratulate MR. Ronald colaco and team for the woundeful work and I wish that we will get the fruit of this very soon . I thank MR Ronald Colaco and wish him Best in his work.

Lawrence, USA- see the above pics, Colaco can be seen polite when dealing with the CM. The way in which Arch Bhishop dealt with CM was completely different and it doesn't give any respect to Arch Bhishop chair. Anyway all the best to you Christen friends. Thanks

Yeddi had promised when he had come to Mangalore-that once the Somshekar report is out he can have the cases withdrawn. So now Yeddi can withdraw the cases filed on victims rather than perpetrators of crime.

    Thank Mr. Ronald Colaco.
Mr. CM must understand and appreciate the service, generosity, helping hand, and all the good work that we are doing for the State, country, and citizens in India as well as in other nation. Christians what we need is peace, humbleness, prosperity, and brotherly love. Hope Mr. CM will do understand the situation and withdraw all cases as he did for BJP, RSS, Bagaranga Dal, VHP, and Rama Sena activist.

Mr. CM please understand we too belong to INDIA and we don’t like to see when our brothers and sisters are betrayed for nothing and understand our pain and withdraw al cases as good gesture and be an excellent model in leadership. Thanks in advance.

Indeed Mr.Ronald Colaco has given the best if initiatives and may his example be a beacon light for many others too. The cases against the young must definately be withdrawn soon. The CM gave his word for favourable consideration even at the valedictory of the Konkani Sammel in the presence of Advaniji at Nehru Maidan at Mangalore in Dec 2010. Every peace loving citizen wants to see that all people are happy and progress in the best possible ways. Let the good rule the land of sages -Jai Bharat.Jai Karnataka.
