Sri Lanka PM Mahinda Rajapaksa steps down

Colombo, May 9 (IANS): Amid a nation-wide stir demanding his removal, Sri Lanka Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Monday quit from his post, media reports said.

The development came in the wake of island-wide curfew being slapped after clashes between pro and anti-government supporters in Colombo and elsewhere, the Daily Mirror reported.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who himself is facing calls to quit, had last week asked his brother and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to step down from the PM's post to pave the way for an all-party government to resolve the ongoing political crisis.

However, Mahinda Rajapaksa had been adamant that only he could head any government.

Why do most of the contributors have an inferiority complex and always a pessimistic view. Are we not capable being number one country in the near future. Yes Indians were going with a begging bowl couple of decades back, but not today. We are now leading producers of many things in the world. Only one country where every religion has right to practice their religion. One of the very few countries who have their own space technology, self sufficient in food production and recently one of the very very few who produced their own vaccine for Covid 19.. Be proud .

Same fate awaits for India. It’s only a matter of time when people will be out in the streets demanding food for survival, roof over the head and future for children.
