Udupi, May 10: The death of a mother and daughter that occurred near Madaga Anganwadi under Atradi gram panchayat limits has taken a twist. Earlier, it was thought that the duo died due to consuming poison. Now it is suspected that both were killed by strangulation.
Cheluvi (28) of Andhra origin and her daughter Priya (10) lost their lives in the incident. The incident has occurred between the Sunday May 8 evening and Monday May 9 morning.
The house where the incident took place
Mother of deceased Cheluvi and her son Preetam (14) had gone to their relative’s house in Bhadravathi. Only the deceased mother and daughter were living in the house.
When Cheluvi’s mother Muniyamma called her mobile at around 9 am on Monday, May 9, her mobile was switched off. She informed the matter to neighbours. When the neighbour checked, door of the house was open and both Cheluvi and Priya were found dead in sleeping condition inside the house. Blood oozed out of the nose and mouth of Cheluvi, while Priya’s neck was found to be strangulated.
Cheluvi married Subrahmanya of Manchi 15 years ago. She was working in an oil factory at Manipal. She got acquainted with Rasheed at her work place. When Subrahmanya came to know about Cheluvi’s affair with Rasheed, he abandoned her. Later Cheluvi went to Mumbai with Rasheed and stayed there for two years. Then they came back and resided in a rented house at Karkal. She gave birth to a boy and girl during this period. Later some differences arose between the two and Cheluvi left her husband and was living with her mother at Atradi.
Police officials reported at the spot along with dog squad and finger print experts. Further investigation is on.
