Sullia, Feb 22: A woman who had been in a live-in relationship for seven years was allegedly hacked to death by her lover in Kuttamotte, near Ubaradka, on Monday February 21.
The deceased is 36-year-old Arunashree, daughter of Hosagadde Ganapayya Gowda. Her lover, 39-year-old Karunakara is the accused and has been arrested by Sullia police.
Both Arunashree and Karunakara had been living-together for the past seven years and have a four-year-old daughter. Arunashree was three months pregnant when Karunakara murdered her with a log while under the influence of alcohol on Monday night, reports stated.
Police sources said that Karunakara, upon realizing that his lover was dead, tried to cover up the cold-blooded murder by making a late-night call to her sister on Monday saying that Arunashree has committed suicide by consuming poison.
Karunakara was believed to have been assaulting Arunashree almost daily for the past two months, suspecting her of infidelity and harassing her over property issues. She was treated in a hospital for a few days before she opted to stay at her parent’s house. Her family elders recently brought them together after counseling and decided to get them officially married.
On the basis of a complaint from Arunashree’s brothers, policemen led by Sullia circle inspector Laxman Kumar, sub-inspector Aithappa Naik, and Praveen Nilammanavar, arrested Karunakar.
Puttur ASP Dr Rohini paid a visit to the crime spot and further investigations are under way.
