Mangalore, Feb 28: Relating to the slaying of Kabir, an associate of Madoor Isubu, the policemen have arrested five persons till Sunday evening. They have been trying to nab another.
Four persons from Suratkal area, and another from Tokkottu Kolya, have been taken into custody. On the basis of information extracted from these people, the policemen have now been trying to arrest another person. All the accused were found from within the district, and they had not fled after the murder as rumoured in the past, it is learnt.
The policemen say that Kabir was murdered as in retaliation for the murder of Sukhanand Shetty. It is said that high-ranking persons from Suratkal having industrial and political background had worked to eliminate Kabir. The policemen are pooling information to prove the involvement of these persons.
The communal elements had laid low for sometime, after Gopal Hosur, the then western range inspector general of police, had warned them. The policemen have strengthened the vigil across the district, as chances of retaliatory killings related to Kabir’s murder cannot be ruled out.
There is some confusion about the Scorpio vehicle used by the assailants in the above murder, which was taken into possession by the policemen from Malemar in the city on Saturday. The policemen have collected information that this vehicle was seen often in Gurpur area recently. As per records, the vehicle belongs to a person residing near Mundaje in Beltangady. The fact that the vehicle was with the body guard of a politician at the time of murder, has made the issue further complicated. The policemen are thinking in terms of handing over the investigation relationg to the ownership and handling of Scorpio vehicle, to Beltangady police station. It is not clear as to whether the vehicle in question was stolen or hired.
