Bangalore, Mar 3: Yet another JD(S) MLA, Karadi Sanganna, was trapped by the ruling BJP in its controversial ``Operation Kamala” for luring MLAs elected from the opposition parties and getting them to quit their seats to indirectly help the B S Yeddyurappa regime to improve its strength in the Assembly.
Karadi Sanganna elected from Koppal Constituency on the JD(S) ticket submitted his resignation to Assembly Speaker K G Boppaiah, who accepted it forthwith, and announced the same in the House at the end of the day on Thursday. The erstwhile JD(S) MLA is expected to join BJP shortly.
The opposition Congress and JD(S) have lashed out at the Yeddyurappa regime for shamelessly luring the MLAs elected on their tickets to resign by offering them allurements of office and even money.
``The latest incident of JD(S) MLA Karadi Sanganna resigning his seat is anti-democratic and nefarious strategy of the ruling BJP,” said Congress opposition leader Siddaramaiah, warning that this will boomerang on the Yeddyurappa regime in the long run.
Siddaramaiah said the people of Karnataka were fed up and disgusted with the constant Operation Kamala being undertaken by the ruling party to boost its strength in the House by reducing that of the opposition parties. ``It will be harmful to democracy. BJP will regret its decision,” he said.
Terming the resignation of Karadi Sanganna as “most unfortunate,” Siddramaih said such political moves of the BJP would not augur well to the democracy.
The BJP government, which has been facing several charges of corruption, has been using the money power to purchase MLAs of the Opposition parties to remain in power, he said.
“Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa must realise that the power is temporary and backdoor methods to remain in power through purchasing Opposition MLAs would backfire soon,” warned Siddaramaiah.
JD(S) leader H D Revanna denounced Yeddyurappa for shamelessly poaching on the party MLAs and said the latter had not yet learnt a lesson with the withdrawal of support by Independent MLAs.
``We will come out with our response by exposing more misdeeds and corruption scandals against Yeddyurappa,” declared Revanna.
Meanwhile, State BJP President K S Eshwarappa feigned ignorance on the reports of Karadi Sanganna’s resignation or his moves to join BJP.
“Karadi Sanganna has not spoken to me and I don’t know any of his decision of joining the BJP,” he said while pointing out that the party would take appropriate decision if leaders from other parties want to join BJP.
``This is politics. There should be constant movement and infusion of new blood if the party has to grow. Politics cannot be stagnant,” he asserted explaining that coming and going is a constant process in all parties.
