Bangalore, Mar 4: If the B S Yeddyurappa-led BJP Government has its way, the Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) at Devanahalli in the city outskirts could well be named after Bangalore’s legendary founder, Kempe Gowda.

In a written reply to D K Shivakumar of the Congress during the zero hour in the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said the next Cabinet meeting would take a decision on the issue and submit a proposal to the Centre urging it to name the BIAL after Kempe Gowda.

Shivakumar said the Delhi airport has been named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Mumbai airport after Chatrapathi Shivaji.

The State Government should also take steps to name the BIAL afterKempe Gowda, who had built the Bangalore, he demanded.

why should Bangalore International Airport has to be named after Kempegowda - The worst Idea propogated by gowda community - and it show their dominating character over other community.
1stly what the so called kempegowda has contributed to bangalore - Its just 4 small miniature tower. and these people and they should come out proving more than - mysore wodeyars, Vishveshwaraiah, and other leading personalities from date back .

and very much important is suppressed backward community though they have greatly contributed the society thousands of year why not there is a voices and support for naming on their name.

Example : Vishwakarma - who is the creator god : and one can see great contribution like beloor, halebeedu, pattadakallu, and also can see in ramayana epic about pushpaka viman used by ravana and also it is vishwakarma -and his comunity has given technology, cultural manuments, temles etc where they bring cultural and historical - world famous to karnataka's history

so to honour to them why not it BAIL to be named after Vishwakarma

It is better to name the Airport after some historic figures Kempe Gowda (or even better Krishnadevaraja) than after some politician. Another choice could be Hyder Ali who had the vision of Bangalore becoming a "Garden City" which it became till recently and created Lal Bagh which is still today the best public park in India.
