Mangaluru, June 2: Dakshina Kannada National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Thursday, June 2 staged a protest condemning the arrest of NSUI leaders. The protest was held in front of the Congress office in Mallikatte.
The protesters also demanded their immediate release.
The protesters also raised slogans against the BJP-led state government. As NSUI workers protested on the road, police had to detain them to clear the traffic.
NSUI state general secretary Suhan Alva who took the initiative of the protest said that state unit of NSUI president Keerthi Ganesh and other leaders were taken into custody for the silly reason that NSUI laid a siege to the education minister's residence.
“The state government is suppressing the voice of protesters which is unfair. The arrested youth should be released immediately, if not in the coming days a massive protest will be staged,” he said.
He said people in the BJP have allegedly said that the residence of the education minister has been lit on fire. “But, burning a house is not the culture of NSUI. It is the culture of the BJP as Nalin Kumar said that the entire district will burn.”
