Mumbai: Fire Victims to Get Up to Rs 5,000


Mumbai, March 5 (IANS) Victims of a fire that ravaged a slum here will get up to Rs.5,000 as compensation.

Mumbai Suburban District Collector Nirmal Deshmukh told IANS that each person who suffered burns would get Rs.1,000 while a maximum of Rs.5,000 would be paid to each family.

No one died in the Friday night fire in Mumbai's Bandra area Friday night, destroying nearly 2,000 huts. Twenty-five fire tenders extinguished the fire Saturday morning.
