Rs 2.19 crore worth gold seized in one month at Mangaluru International Airport

Mangaluru, Jun 6: Incidents of illegal transportation of gold from Dubai are increasing all over the country. In the international airport in the city, Rs 2.19 crore worth gold is confiscated in the past month.

In the period from May 5 to June 5, 3.688 kg of 24 carat pure gold is confiscated and six people are arrested. In most cases, it is noticed that the gold is carried in gum form in various parts of the body. In some other cases, the gold was carried in powder form concealed in various goods.

In 2021, from January to April 19, contraband gold worth Rs 10 crore weighing 21 kg was confiscated by the custom officials.

Custom senior officials said that they will not allow to carry gold illegally under any cost. Security check is tightened at the airport. Two teams of custom officers consisting of 20 people is monitoring the passengers and luggage.
