Mangalore, Mar 7: Vishwa Kannada Teru (chariot), representing the cultural diversity of Dakshina Kannada and in connection with Vishwa Kannada Sammelan at Belgaum from March 11 was taken out on Monday March 7.

The teeru was flagged off at Kadri Park in the presence of dignitaries on Monday March 7 at 9.30 am and expected to traverse through places of historical and cultural importance in Bantwal, Puttur, Sullia, Beltangady taluks and reach Belgaum via Moodbidri on March 10. Zilla panchayat president K T Shailaja Bhat lit the lamp. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, DC Subodh Yadav, AC Prabhulinga Kavalikatte, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Annayya Kulal and Harikrishna Punaroor among others were present.

The teru bears the Sammelan logo in the front and various paintings depicting the cultural, historical specialities of the district on the remaining sides.

The teru is being taken out to create awareness about the art, culture and literature of this land.

Tahshildars of the respective taluks, along with local dignitaries will receive the teru at the respective taluk borders. K V Raman, stage director, Nithyanada Rao, secretary, Manikrishna Swami and Lakshmeesh are the district representatives accompanying the teru. A delegation of 50-members from Dakshina Kannada district will be attending the Sammelan.
