Ullal, Jun 7: The Zulekha Yenepoya Institute of Oncology supported by Tata Trust will be inaugurated on Saturday, June 11 at Yedurance Zone, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) Campus, Deralakatte, Mangaluru.

State minister of health and family Welfare and Medical Education Dr K Sudhakar will inaugurate the institute in the presence of CEO of Tata Trusts, Mumbai, Srinath N. Chancellor of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) Dr Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi will preside over the program.

District in-charge minister V Sunil Kumar, Udupi district in-charge minister S Angara, Kodagu District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs U T Khader, Rajesh Naik, Vedvyas Kamath, Bharath Shetty, Harish Poonja, Sanjeeva Matandoor, MLCs Harish Kumar, Manjunath Bhandary, Prathap Simha Nayak, B M Farooq, pro-chancellor Farhaad Yenepoya, vice-chancellor Dr M Vijayakumar, registrar Dr K S Gangadhara Somayaji, Yenepoya trustees and others will be present on the occasion.

Yenepoya (Deemed to be a University) sprawling across 35 acres of lush green campus at Deralakatte in city has completed over two decades of commitment in the field of higher education. Established in the year 2008 by the Islamic Academy of Education Charitable Trust, the University has 10 constituent colleges with over 7500 students. Yenepoya University is accredited by NAAC with an ' A' grade.

One of the constituent units, Yenepoya Medical College with 1100 bedded hospital has a cancer centre attached to it, functioning since January 2016. Tata Trusts has supported the institute with a one-time ' grant-in-aid' in establishing a comprehensive cancer care center in the medical college hospital. The building has six floors and a built-in area of about 36,000 sq ft. The center houses two radiotherapy bunkers and one brachytherapy bunker. A True Beam Radiotherapy machine and Brachytherapy machine with necessary accessories have been installed and commissioned. The building also has a separate Nuclear Medicine facility including PET CT Scanner and Radio isotope therapy. The whole project was executed by Tata Trusts through Alamelu Charitable Foundation.
