Puttur: Theft on pretext of putting off fire - Accused arrested

Puttur, Jun 9: In a bizarre incident that is reported from the taluk, which occurred on May 16, Uppinangady police arrested a man, employee of a local bar and restaurant on the accusation of stealing gold from a house that was on fire.

The house of Anand Moolya, resident of Malengal in Kaniyoor village of Beltangady caught fire on May 16. Locals helped in time and put off the fire. Many things went up in ashes. However, the box in which the gold was kept and the documents related to house and property were found intact.

Later, when the things were being rearranged, it was found that the golden ornaments worth Rs 2.50 lac kept inside the box were missing.

Uppinangady police subjected Shivaprasad (38), employee of a local bar and restaurant and he confessed that he has stolen the golden ornaments. The police have recovered the stolen items from him. He confessed that he found the gold box while he arrived to put off the fire inside the house and stole the ornaments.

Accused Shivaprasad was arrested and produced in court by the police.
