Sullia: Shoot out with country rifle – Three arrested, car, gun seized

Sullia, Jun 9: Police have arrested three people in connection with the shootout case that occurred at Sullia on June 5.

Police personnel travelled to Hassan, Madikeri, Kushalnagar etc to nab the suspects, gathered information and arrested K Jayan (38), resident of Kushalnagar, Kodagu, Vinod R (34), a resident of Madikeri, Kodagu and H S Manoj (25), a resident of Madikeri, Kodagu district in this connection.

The police have confiscated the car that was used in the act as well as a country rifle and two live bullets from the accused.

On June 5, the accused allegedly fired a bullet at Mohammed Sai (39), a resident of Jayanagara in Sullia in front of Venkatramana Society while he was in his car after coming back from his sister’s house at about 10.30 pm . The bullet had brushed the left back of the complainant and hit between the two doors of the car.

A complaint in this regard was filed by victim Mohammed Sai with the Sullia police. The motive for the attempt to kill is not yet known.

A case under registration No. 62/2022 IPC section 307, 34 and Arms Act section 25 and 27 is registered at Sullia police station in this connection.

The operation was led by ASI Dilip G R and personnel of Sullia police station.

It may be recalled that Balachandra Kalagi was the BJP leader and Kodagu Sampaje gram panchayat president. Sampath Kumar and others were not permitted by Balachandra to open the proposed recreation club at Kodagu Sampaje vicinity.

The gang of Sampath Kumar, Hariprasad and Jayan who were anguished, conspired and killed Kalagi by deliberately hitting the lorry being driven by them to the Maruti Omni being driven by Kalagi near Gauri Shanker nursery, Mekeri grama, Madikeri on March 19, 2019.

A case under registration No. 45/2019 section 120(B), 302, 201 34 is registered at Madikeri rural police station in this connection.

The gang of Manohar K S alias Manu, Bipin A S, Manoj P A, Shshir D and Karthik A V had hacked to death Sampath Kumar, primary murder suspect of Balachandra Kalagi at 7.15 am on October 8, 2020 at Shantinagar, Sullia.

A case under registration No. 74/2020 IPC sections 448, 324, 109, 120(B), 34 and sections 3, 25, 27 and 30 Arms Act 1959 is registered at Sullia police station in this connection.
