Udupi, Jun 9: The department of Neurosurgery of Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal had organised Brain tumour awareness programme on June 8.
Every year on June 8 is observed as World Brain Tumour Day. This year theme is “Together We Are Stronger.” It’s an annual event to increase awareness and educate people about the causes, symptoms, and treatment of brain tumours.
Dr Sharath Kumar Rao, deanm KMC Manipal and chief guest of the program released awareness and information kit on the occasion and said “just by hearing the word of Brain Tumor people think that it is their end of life and get very scared and their self-confidence collapses. In the recent years due to the advancement in medical field especially in Neurosurgery department has led to dramatic changes and treatment for Brain Tumors. The main objective of organizing brain tumor day is to create awareness and educate people about the brain tumors and its treatment. Through timely treatment such as early detection, diagnosis and treatment brain tumors can be completely cured.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent, said, “Kasturba Hospital, Manipal is providing treatment for 12-15 districts of Karnataka and neighboring states over the past six decades. We are not only providing the treatment, but also creating awareness and educating the people about various disease and life threating illness.”
Dr Girish Menon, professor, HoD, Department of Neurosurgery gave the overview and said one of the graded disease in the world is brain tumour. In Kasturba Hospital Manipal in the past 10 years we operated around 1700 brain tumors cases which is alarming number. Dr Raghavendra Nayak, professor, Department of Neurosurgery proposed a vote of thanks.
