Pathetic condition of roads: Trip to Bengaluru from Mangaluru takes 10 hours

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jun 11: Road that connects to the capital city of Bengaluru from Mangaluru is badly damaged from Shiradi. This has caused inconvenience to the industry and trade as it takes longer to reach the capital.

Around 16 km of stretch from Donigal to Maranahalli from   Shiradi on NH 75 is totally destroyed. Tourists doubt whether it is a national highway at all. Such is the situation. Now it is relatively hot and rains have not started. During Monsoon the traversing on this stretch will be a nightmare.

If the road is good it takes 6.5 to 7 hours to reach Bengaluru from Mangaluru. But now it takes nearly 10 hours. From B C Road to Gundya, four lane NH work is on. Similarly the stretch between Sakleshpur and Hassan is also going on. At most of the places in it one way and vehicles have to move very slowly. Adding to this delay is the utter bad state of the stretch between Donigal and Maranahalli.

The commercial activities of Bengaluru are dependent on the only port city of the state Mangaluru. Otherwise, Bangaloreans have to go to Chennai for sea port. In addition, large scale industries like MRPL, NMPT and MSEZ are in the coastal district. This delay is causing enormous loss in their business. Moreover, daily use items like vegetables, fruits and grocery items arrive from Bengaluru. This also suffered a blow due to this issue. Social thinker Dilraj Alva says that even tourism has affected a lot due to the bad road condition.

Gundya resident Manohar says, “People representatives should stop travelling between Mangaluru and Bengaluru by flight and use the road instead. They will come to know the reality. Do not test the patience of people of Dakshina Kannada district. Let the people's representatives know their responsibilities.”

Shashidhar Pai Maroor, president of Canara Chamber of Commerce says, “Crores of rupees are lost due to the bad condition of Maranahalli-Donigal road. If it is not repaired in the coming days it will pose danger even to lives of passengers and drivers. We have appealed to union minister Gadkari also. Let them take action against the contractor who has still not started the work even after the tender is passed. The government officials pass the buck on one another. The responsible person or authority has to be found out and a hefty fine needs to be put on them."

Have some patience, atleast work is initiated. If earlier govt would have bothered to do this work now the problem would not be there in the first place. Also Stop exaggeration unnecessarily.

How long will it take... When you construct new toll road you should not spoil existing road. Otherwise they will install toll before completing the road. NHAI records 70km a day but this 170km will take ages to complete by the same govt .

A record was set a few days ago wherein 75kms of NH was laid in a day. That means 16kms will be laid in less than 6 hours. So keep hope. Maybe no one is aware that this road exists.

Why do we need good roads, schools, hospitals, jobs, clean drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, hygienic drainage systems, pollution free environment...these are all things of the past for which Congress and Nehru responsible. Now we are more interested in who wears what, which colour, who eats what and so on. As long as these issues are kept burning all the times, we will definitely develop to become number one super Power of the world. Thanks to our farsighted leaders.

I had travelled last week and the road is absolutely pathetic. Even though I traveled by a KSRTC Airvatha double axle Vovlo I could sleep even though given the rough roads even though it has a tagline of "sleep like a baby". Even after closing the ghats so many times over the years there has not been visible improvement.

I congratulate the people for voting this government and for continuing to support it. We get what we deserve. We don't deserve anything better than this. We want religion, communal unrest, price rise and such things. During the last elections, the BJP workers came to our houses requesting votes in the name of Modi. Everyone looked at Modi's face and voted for the BJP. Where is Modi now? Let the BJP workers go to Delhi and ask him to come here and attend to the repairs of this road. It is the local guy who is important. He is the one who has to attend to such works. Simply taking Modi's name and asking the people to vote in his name and this is what you get. If you blindly vote for someone who doesn't deserve it, then I am afraid we will have to put up with such inconvenience. No use complaining. We asked for it and we got it.

Everytime politicians to cant be blamed. Even most of mangaloreans too should be blamed for this. Except few hardly anyone one is pressuring politicians regarding this. Most of people here are only concerned about keep new names for streets, ghallis etc. No one wants real development. Most of the 2 tier cities in karnataka are overtaking mangalore in terms of developments and people here are still busy reading history books.

Mr Anilkumar, please do not suggest Mr Kateel to take incharge of the work. It took 10 years to finish Kankanady Circle Overpass. It may take more than 10 years to finish 10 KM road. Accusing Congress takes only 10 minutes for BJP.

We have headlines grabbing statements ... Guinea’s World record 75 kms in 105 hours etc etc... Few days back this record .... All to divert from actual facts on the ground ... For last twenty years it was promised mangalore Bangalore good roads .. Rubber .. plastic .. concrete ..yet a simple ghat road not at all complicated Compared to roads in high mountains ... Europe .. China .. Vietnam etc etc Only tolls rates have increased .... tunnel roads .. expressway .. all hollow promises .. Endless ..sufferings .. (ALL POLITICIANS AND MINISTERS GOING UP AND DOWN MANGALORE BANGALORE.. should be barred from flying .. No tickets for flying .. Once they travel by road they will understand suffering ..)... Everyday more than 7 flights. MLR TO BLR ... so it is very convenient for politicians.. .... now ...Fundamental problem is piecemeal contracts .. Politicians and vested interests pocket small road length Contracts .. they are unaccountable to authorities.. road quality etc .. Topping is 40 percent commissions... How a good road all weather possible ... Give companies like Larsen and Toubro within a year they can make world class roads .. But L& T not considered for all political reasons .. commissions etc

Make Nalin Kumar Kateel as in charge of this work. At least in next 5 years there will be some road. BJP Govt will not bother because they are busy accusing other politicians and saving their chair. Even if it takes 20 hrs instead of 10 hrs, they will not bother.

In the Month of May, I had to travel by Day Bus from Bengaluru to Udupi and someone suggested to me to travel in Airavatha, though I was not tired I got really bored because the bus left at 8.00 AM From Majestic to reach Udupi at 6.00 PM, Total distance covered 420 Kms and average speed per Hour of just 42 Kms Per Hour, My son Comes From Gujarat at an average speed of 90 Kms Per Hour In Rajdhani Express, so why not Strengthen the Railways instead because Trains can Travel Much Faster with much higher passenger capacity. Just imagine the wastage of fossil fuels for the extra time taken to travel due to perennial bad roads and this is not a new story.
