Udupi, Jun 11: St Mary’s English Medium(CBSE) School, Udupi conducted school parliament election for the post of head boy and head girl on June 9 to model students the democratic practices and procedures of fair election system.
The official notification of election was officially issued by principal on May 30 in school assembly. The scheduled time scale to file the nomination was on or before June 2 by 12.30 pm. The nominations filed by the candidates were scrutinized on June 3. Among the total 13 Nominations filed eight candidates were shortlisted to contest the election. June 4 was the last date to withdraw the nominations. eight shortlisted candidates from grade 10- Amogha A, Anshul R Anchan,b Mohd Muntasir Sayyed, Nidish Shetty, Bushra Ayesha, Sanvika Natraj, Sowjanya Bhat and Samantha Mascarenhas were provided platform to put forth their agendas through election campaign speeches during the morning assembly at St Mary's Auditorium.
The rules and regulations regarding the campaigning strategies were notified by the chief electoral officer Fr Johnson Sequeira. The polling was methodically conducted on June 9 at 1.30 pm at different election booths systematically set up at various class rooms and Mother Theresa hall. The students from grade 6 to 10 had the eligibility to cast votes. Teachers appointed as presiding officers verified the identity of candidates by checking the details of their identity card, spotted them in voters’ list and validated the exercise of their vote by applying the indelible ink on theirleft index fingernail to prevent the duplication of voting. The voters exercised their vote by stamping the election seal on the ballot papers.Election counting started at 2.30 pm at Correspondent’s office in the presence of all candidates, principal and vice principal. The ballot boxes were safely sealed in front of the candidates and shifted to correspondent’s office. The confidentiality of voting and the transparency of procedures were maintained at all the stages of election. The official declaration of the election results was made by the principal during the evening school assembly. Samantha of Grade 10 is elected as the head girl and Nideesh of Grade 10 is elected as the head boy for the academic year. The heads of school parliament along with the office bearers will soon take up the baton during swear in ceremony.
