Mangalore: Al Qaida Threat to World Cup – High Alert in Coast

Mangalore, Mar 12: The personnel of Coast Guard and Coastal Security Force, acting on intelligence reports, took up detailed verification process across Karnataka coast, on Friday March 11. The intelligence reports have alerted that the World Cup cricket matches being played in Mumbai face the threat of disruption from Al Qaida outfit.
The operation, which was launched on Friday morning, continued till evening. In all likelihood, the personnel will continue to keep vigil and check the genuineness of the boats moving around, on Saturday too, sources said.
All the three boats of the city station of Coastal Security Force were pressed into service for checking the fishing boats moving about in the sea. Reportedly, similar operation was conducted by Udupi and Karwar stations of Coastal Security Force. The Coast Guard personnel too have been patrolling the coast and keeping an eye on possible suspicious movement of boats and ships, by surfing around in their boats and ships.
