Chikmagalur, Mar 12: The Uroos Observation Committee meeting, presided over by the district deputy commissioner, had announced on Thursday March 10 that the committee has decided to celebrate Uroos for three days from March 20 at Bababudangiri.
In the meanwhile, president of Dargah Committee, Syed Ghouse Mohiyuddin Shah Khadri, who stayed away from the committee meeting, announced that separate Uroos for three days from March 26 will be observed at Bababudangiri hills from March 26. His announcement has given rise to a number of speculations about the fall out of conducting two separate Uroos at the sacred spot.
There has been a prolonged behind-the-scene tussle between the district administration and Shah Khadri since some time over Uroos. He was invited to the meeting convened for fixing the dates of the Uroos, but he chose to remain absent. But in the evening, he issued a press statement, giving new dates of the Uroos.
In the meanwhile, Aurangazeb, president of Uroos Observation Committee, clarified that the Muslims of the district are not opposed to the leadership of Shah Khadri. However, he asked Khadri to speak to the deputy commissioner about fixing of the dates for the Uroos before finalizing them. Some say that Shah Khadri has been given permission by the Supreme Court to hold the Uroos. But, the officials of the deputy commissioner’s office say that they can say anything in the matter only after they get copy of the Supreme Court order and study it.
In the meanwhile, deputy commissioner, N S Channappa Gowda, said that the devotees will be allowed entry into the sacred cave on the first day of the Uroos, and that facilities like drinking water and sheds for the stay of devotees will be provided at the venue.
