Mangaluru: Corrupt govt officials harassing public to be dismissed directly – DC Dr Rajendra

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jun 19: “The Government officials should not beg the public for bribes. Public should not be harassed by referring their concerns to departmental officers for every work. Once an application is received, resolving it is the responsibility of the officer concerned. Instead of that, making the applicant run from pillar to post is not right,” said DC Dr Rajendra K V.

Speaking at a village stay (Grama Vastavya) programme at Alangaru near Moodbidri, he said that he would send such officials home if they harassed the public for bribes.

Social worker Peer Mohammed Saheb, who is fighting for the cause of Endosulfan affected victims said that Centre's project of permanent rehabilitation centre for the Endosulfan victims is still not implemented. The mothers of endosulfan victims are taking care of them and they should be provided with a pension, he added. DC said that he would bring this to the notice of the government.

A Dalit woman complained to the DC about not getting a government site. Another woman raised the issue of harassment for giving title deed under 94 C. Koila Gram Panchayat former president Balakrishna Gowda complained of high volume from a loudspeaker in a nearby mosque.

The DC was at Alangaru till late night and scrutinized all the applications and petitions. He also asked police to take action against the mosque if the volume is more than 75 decibels.

Although well intentioned, this statement sounds like a joke. Visit any government department and more often that not, you will have to pay a bribe to have your job done. If you lay a trap, you will get at least 100 corrupt civil servants walking into it every day. You name the department and for sure, you will have to pay a bribe.

Dare anyone complain and his job will cost him many times the bribe; so better paying instead of getting harrased!! Easiest method to trap these guys is to have a full fledged raid in their houses?
