Mangaluru: Father’s Day, awareness programme on NREGA scheme held at Neermarga parish

Mangaluru, Jun 19: An awareness programme on NREGA scheme organized by Commission for Environment, commission for SC & ST and Father’s Day by ICYM under the guidance of Fr Anil Canute D'Mello, parish priest, was celebrated with lot of enthusiasm on June 19 in the parish auditorium.

The grand celebration commenced with an Invocation by ICYM. The propitious morning began devotionally invoking Gods blessings.

Fr Anil D Mello, parish riest, Ravi Saldanha, Prakash Pereira, vice president and secretary of Parish Pastoral Council, Maurice Renjal, parish coordinator of 21 Commissions, Jelroy Vas ICYM president, Anil D'Cunha & Joel Prashanth Fellrio, The resource persons, Sandeep Misquith and Sunil -Animators of ICYM , Joy Sannu Vas and Laveena Nazareth—Coordinators of Commission for Environment and SC & ST respectively were the dignitaries who graced the occasion.

Ravi Saldanha spontaneously articulated his special sentiments on how he bonds with his children and what is best about it and how St Joseph is a role model for Fathers. Fr Anil D'Mello in his inspirational presidential address, from humor to inspiration led the participants to thank God for the gift of Fatherhood and gave a clarion call to build strong relationships with their wards through leading exemplary lives of discipline, prayer and patience. He further said,” All through His life, St. Joseph was a righteous man and always was open to the Spirit and Will of God. St Joseph through His deeds invite each one of you to surrender to God’s will and faithfully fulfil his call all through your lives”.

Anil D'Cunha began his session by tracing the origin of Father’s Day. He then underlined the Four Primary Roles of a Father—Priest, Prophet, Protector and Procreator and further emphasized on the fact how a father can be compared to a sculptor, potter and gardener and then stressed on the responsibilities and importance of a Father in a family and society at large. Each Recipe was well marinated with the right measure of quotes --George Herbert and Susan Gale, anecdotes and vignettes that enlightened the participants to live life in its fullness and beauty.

Jackson Mascarenhas conducted two Father’s Day games and Francis Gonsalves, Wilfred Vas and Cyril came out victorious.

The energetic youth entertained their fathers with scintillating dances. “No one will love you more than your father”- This theme was beautifully exemplified in the skit entitled “Father’s Love”.

Joel Prashanth Fellrio spoke at length about the working, objectives, benefits of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). He also vividly explained about Entitlements to Eligible Rural Individuals and the ways to apply for the NREGA Job Card – it was indeed a thought provoking talk that illumined the minds of the gathering.

Sonia Babitha D'Souza and Aston D'Souza compered the programme. Joy Sannu Vas welcomed the audience and Shabitha Saldanha proposed the vote of thanks.
