Mangaluru: Local clubs jointly organize ‘Yoga for Humanity’

Mangaluru, Jun 21: As part of the International Yoga Day celebrations, a yoga activity programme to promote ‘Yoga for Humanity’ was conducted by the river side, in Sultan Bathery, Mangaluru on June 21, between 7 am to 8.30 am. Sultan Bathery is one of the 75 historical and iconic monumental locations identified by the Government as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The programme was organized by Government of India , Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Nehru Yuva Kendra Mangaluru, district administration, zilla panchayat, department of AYUSH Dakshina Kannada, department of Tourism, Mangalore City Corporation. Members from the Mangalore Surf Club, Youth Sports Club, Wave Club and other local youth organizations were also actively involved in the organizing team.

The programme began with an inaugural message delivered by Raghuveer Souterpete, district youth officer, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Dakshina Kannada.
This was followed by an address by Manakya, deputy director, department of Tourism who spoke about the importance of yoga. Then, Dr Sahana Rai, department of AYUSH spoke about the need to inculcate yoga in everyday life and the ways to do it. The yoga session was conducted by Dr Swetha Bhat and Dr Aswathy Jain for the participants who practiced yoga on top of the fort premises in Sultan Bathery. After this session, Anish from Wave Club performed yoga on SUP board on the waters of River Gurupura.

The programme was coordinated by Mithun Kajunje, Mangalore Surf Club. Chetan, assistant director, department of Tourism was also present. The programme was also attended by Geeta and Arun Prakash Rai from the NCC, Priyanka KVS, NYK representative and members of Mangalore Surf Club and other youth clubs. The programme was a grand success garnering over 100 participants who demonstrated yoga on the monument.
