Udupi, Mar 16: At the meeting held with the officials of the department of highways at Brahmavar on Monday March 14 evening  to discuss issues relating to the highway widening work between Suratkal and Kundapur, former MLA, K Jayaprakash Hegde, requested the officials of the department to send a fresh proposal to the department to convert the fly over proposed near Shastri circle in Kundapur into one with seven arches instead of three proposed now.

Hegde pointed out that Kundapur is the only place in the district to house revenue subdivision, taluk office, and municipality. He explained that at the time of building the fly over at the said circle, spacious provision should be made below the bridge, failing which vehicular traffic snarls will occur.

Hegde also demanded under-passes at Basrur, Koteshwar and Kota Viveka College junctions. He wanted all measurements for highway widening to be made in reference to the measurements taken in 1960, and to shift the subway proposed to be built near Brahmvar church, to near government PU college there.

In his reaction, G N Hegde, engineer in the department, said that he will bring the suggestions made at the meeting to the notice of the authority. Jayaprakash Hegde said that the general opinion that emerged at the meeting will be brought to the notice of Rajya Sabha member, Oscar Fernandes, and his help will be sought to bring pressure on the minister for highways to get these demands met.

Kundapur municipal president, K Mohandas Shenoy, Kundapur urban development authority chairman, Mani Gopal, former zilla panchayat president, B Bhujanga Shetty, and a number of other dignitaries participated in the meeting and extended suggestions.
