Bengaluru, Jul 2: JD(S) legislature party leader and former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has criticized the Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP government over the dilapidated conditions of government school buildings in the State and demanded that the schools must be repaired in a month.
"The Bommai government is anti-education and is least bothered about the condition of government school buildings. Most of the government school buildings are in a dilapidated condition with no infrastructure facilities,’’ he said.
In a series of tweets, the JD(S) leader said the BJP government is more interested in further its saffron agenda and saffronisation of the school text books. The roofs of schools are leaking, the paints and plaster on the walls is peeling off, there are no proper windows and doors have broken, the students lack drinking water and deprived of toilets.
But, he said the Bommai regime is least interested in improving the situation. As many as 75,675 classrooms in government schools are in poor condition and this is the stark reality of BJP rule, he said.
Kumaraswamy said the State has 34 educational districts in the 224 assembly constituencies. The lives of the students is not safe, he said and warned that the government and education minister will have to face the wrath of people even if one student is injured due to the poor maintenance of schools.
The children of poorer and middle class parents, who are unable to afford the hefty fees in private schools, are forced to attend government schools. But the government is not interested in improving the situation, he said.
In the last 3 years of BJP rule in the State, the condition of government school buildings is pitiable. The BJP is shouting about National Education Policy but is not interested in improving the basic infrastructure facilities in government schools, he said.
