Kundapur, Jul 7: Construction workers across the state held protests including in Kundapur urging to stop corruption in progress at construction workers board, investigate all the violations in purchases and dismiss the minister of labour and labour commissioner.
In the protests held in front of the office of Kundapur labour inspector, a petition was submitted to chief minister Basavaraj Bommai.
“Though there is provision under law to provide monetary assistance to construction workers to construct houses, the money is not being released. Though provident fund officials urged for the workers, no action was taken. There should be cashless treatment for serious illnesses found among workers during medical tests,” they said.
“Revised facilities are not launched. The work of construction workers gets delayed in the office of the labour inspector as there are no inspectors and permanent employees. Instead of using the cess amount for the facilities of the workers, the minister and the commissioner are interested in spending money for kits through tenders for very few workers,” said chief secretary Suresh Kallagar.
The prices of construction materials should be controlled while solving the problem of the supply of sand. The 1996 Cess Act of the construction workers should be retained,” urged the protesters.
Association office bearers Chikka Mogaveera, Santhosh Hemmadi, Alexander, Jagadeesh Achar and Chandrashekar V were present.
