Mangaluru: DC instructs action against engineering colleges not obeying rain holiday order

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 9: Deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada, Dr Rajendra K V strictly instructed the principals and chiefs of all engineering colleges to abide by the holiday given for rains to all educational institutions. Violation will be dealt with strictly, said the DC.

Speaking at the meeting that was held with principals of all engineering colleges of the district to take precautionary measure under natural calamity management, the DC said, “Holidays are declared for educational institutions for the safety of students due to incessant rains. Administrative boards of colleges have to follow that strictly.

“First a survey needs to be done about the mode through which all the engineering college students reach the college. This includes students from rural area, those who reside in hostels and other accommodation. When the district administration announces holiday, it should be mandatorily given. Action will be taken under disaster management act on any institution found to violate the same.

“If district administration takes out an order that is authorised and final. It should be followed without fail,” he said.

If engineering colleges are given holiday why not medical colleges and why not all the staff in all the institutions in DK .Every one is exposed to danger if any.

No just engineering colleges, even degree colleges are forcing faculty to come as if they are not humans. No one gives a damn about teachers health. Even some schools have forced faculty to come. But action is never taken because of their money power. DC has to take all these people into tasks. They have no respect at all for faculty, this seriously has to be addressed.

It's not that that the rains are abnormally high this year, but the flash flooding is due to sloppy infrastructure, concretization, and rampant felling of trees plus the increasing density of housing for the population!! This is going to worsen over the years unless drastic remedial steps are taken!!

College students should be able to attend classes, giving prolonged holidays is not warranted! Those who can't really attend, attendence can be condoned!!

Heavy rains, how can students whether normal or professional sit in the class after getting wet (with normal umbrellas) ? Going to colleges and coming back worst nightmare roads because of improper drainage floods if it rains heavy and incessant.

Professional college should continue their classes during the rains otherwise the students would be pubs and discs. They are adults and can manage themselves public transport is not at a standstill. DC should see in places were water does not flow when there is a good rain.

Dylan, my brother, What are you talking about? Break free from your conventional thinking. Did you ever go to pubs or discos in college? It's perfectly normal. Nothing can be imposed on anyone. We live in a free and democratic society. We are free to do whatever we want within the confines of the law, as long as we do not harm others. We have the right to exist. We can do whatever we want as long as it doesn't harm anyone else.

This order must be strict only for up to second PU level... Graduation and professional colleges must be allowed to take their own decisions... Also it is stupid to impose this rule on residential schools and colleges... Any adult can manage to travel in any kind of rains experienced in twin districts...

Dear Mr. Prakash, What would you do if your 20-year-old child had to travel or take a bus from flooded areas? You could be typing this comfortably in your chair while your children drive or ride in a vehicle. The holiday is given to children who use public transportation or who come from flooded areas. People will blame the government if there is a loss of life. As a result, the holday has been declared.

The holidays for rain is declared for various reasons. First of all travelling, flooding. Secondly due to heavy rains any walls can collapse and due to rain noise its impossible to hear lectures in a class.
