Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (MS)

Bantwal, Jul 10: The level of water in the Netravati river flowing in the taluk has risen to 8.5 meter, which is the danger level. On Saturday, the level was 6.3 meter. However, in the evening of Saturday the level rose considerably.

The water in the river at Uppinangady is also said to have touched the danger level on the morning of Sunday, July 10.

All low lying areas of the river basin in Bantwal are inundated. People are being shifted to safer places. Panemangaluru, Kanchikar Market, Jakribettu, Kaikunje Bastipadpu and other areas are submerged in water. Water is flowing on the roads of Panemangaluru and Kanchikar Market. The high velocity wind in the night has contributed to the rise in the water levels.

Tahsildar Smitharamu, police inspectors T D Nagaraj, Vivekananda, SIs Avinash, Harish and Murthy are in the affected areas and taking precautionary measures to prevent loss of life.

As the forecast of flood was given by IMD, taluk administration is ready along with the boats, diving experts and fire service personnel.

It's a matter of great concern for people residing in areas close to the river as this seems to be a yearly affair! Who is going to bear the heavy losses incurred by individuals living in the vicinity because of adequate infrastructure failure to keep flooding at bay from past experience??
