Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 10: With the rain fury continuing even on Eid day in the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, Sharada High School's playground in Panemangalore was inundated by the flood. The overflowing Netravati river has hit the 8.5 meters danger mark and is still rising.

Water gushed into the premises of several houses, shops and establishments in the low-lying areas of the Nethravathi river basin like Jakribettu, Baddakatte, Panemangaluru, Aladka, Goodinabali, Gudde Angadi, Nandavara, Bantwal, Kelaginapete, Navoooru, Mainadala, Sarapadi, Ajilamogaru, Kanchimar Market, Kaikunje Bastipadpu and other areas. Hence, the local administration and revenue officials have shifted the residents to safer places.

Though the people from the Muslim community faced difficulties during the Bakrid, they celebrated gave importance to safety.

MLA Rajesh Naik also visited a few low-lying areas of the river basin and asked the officials to take care of the people.

As rainfall reduced in the afternoon, the water level too came down in the Netravathi river basin. But, the people residing in the low areas are still worried.

Meanwhile deputy commissioners of DK and Udupi Dr Rajendra K V and Kurma Rao M have declared holiday on Monday, July 11 to all the Anganawadis, primary and high Schools (all private, aided, and government schools). PU colleges and Degree Colleges and other professional colleges will be open July 11 onwards.
