Sullia, Jul 11: The areas around Kukke Subramanya temple are receiving continuous rains for the past one week. The Kumaradhara river is flowing to its brim. Its tributary Darpana Theertha is also flooded. The Darpana Theertha bridge which connects Subrahmanya-Panja-Nintikal-Kaniyoor-Puttur-Manjeshwar is submerged.

The bathing ghat of Kumaradhara has been submerged for a week. The devotees are taking bath on the banks using utensils. The washrooms and changing rooms are also under water. Water has gushed into the luggage room which is at a distance of 100 meters from the bathing ghat.

Artificial floods have occurred in all farm lands on the river basin of Kumaradhara. The farmland and houses of Kittanna Rai and Alkure Gowda are inundated. The houses near Donimakki, Kulkunda Colony, Noochilabailu and nearby areas are cut off from the main land. The connectivity of more than 40 houses is cut off.

The number of devotees was very less at Kukke on Saturday and Sunday due to heavy rains. Otherwise, on weekends and during Ekadashi, huge crowds throng the Kukke temple.

Yenekallu Shankapala Subrahmanya temple has turned into a virtual island due to the overflowing of the Kallaje rivulet. Suttupauli, kitchen and Vasantha Mantapa are also inundated.

The road that goes to Kujumbaru is completely flooded due to the river at Devarahalli overflowing. Devarahalli-Boodipalla-Yenekallu contact road is also inundated. As the overflowing Kumaradhara river has covered road at Pulikukku on Kadaba-Panja stretch, vehicular traffic is stalled.

They turn Gods also into money making ventures, without caring for nature and nature's own course. Only pilgrims, pilgrimage and facilities of 5 star. Most ppl take pilgrimage to be a picnic, instead of austerity. Even authorities turn a blind eye to such indiscriminate building and flouting of ecological norms. Look at the Amarnath, Kedarnath and Badarinath episode, yet, they learn nothing! I believe they are building direct road to Mansarovar, from Dehradun. Tomorrow, they will map route atop Mt. Kailash. Rs 4 lakhs ka tour, meet Lord Shiva. But they have no money to rehabilitate the poor, offer healthcare services for the needy. God save them!
