Mangaluru, Jul 13: Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) has announced its annual competitions including singing, elocution, poetry recitation, fancy dress, Voviyo-Verse (Konkani folk and traditional songs) and a short play competition.

The organisation has made major changes in the competition format and unlike the usual inter-parish competition this year it will be open to all. Participants can participate in the competitions as individuals or as groups by making their own teams without under parish label.

There is no group category in singing, dance and fancy dress this year. In singing and dance there will be only two categories - solo and duet. The singing competition will be held in three rounds. The candidates who win the audition and the first round, which will be held at Mangaluru and Udupi respectively will get an entry to the finale. The grand finale will be held at the Don Bosco Hall with an entertainment extravaganza hosted by Konkani Natak Sabha.

It was in 1965 that Konkani Natak Sabha started a Konkani singing competition for adults and children. It is still popular to this day attracting a large number of elders, youngsters and children. The 54-year-old elocution competition has helped and given exposure to quite a number of children and youths to become good public speakers and anchors.

Apart from singing and elocution, KNS conducts short plays, dance, writing and poetry recitation competitions every year. For 34 years, KNS has been hosting a fancy dress competition which is also quite popular among the Konkani speaking community in and around Mangaluru. Voviyo-Verse is a recently added competition which is stepping into its second year.

The final rounds of singing and the Voviyo-Verse will be exclusively telecast on Daijiworld TV in episodes. Daijiworld.com and Daijiworld TV are the media partners of the event.
