Bantwal, Jul 14: A car turned turtle after falling into a deep gorge by the side of the road in Hanchikatte on B C Road-Dharmasthala National Highway on Wednesday, July 13.

The residents of Jarigebailu of Beltangady taluk driver Sahik, passengers Shahina, Fauzia, Sauda and a six-month-old baby escaped with minor injuries.

The car turned turtle as it fell in the deep valley near Vagga which falls under the Bantwal traffic police limits. All are admitted to Bantwal government hospital.

One of the relatives of the family is admitted at a private hospital at Mangaluru. The family was returning after visiting a sick person.

It is said that the mishap must have occurred due to the slippery road as the mud has fallen on many areas following landslides caused by incessant rains in the coastal district for the past one week.

Increasing population, more influx of outsiders and destruction of nature by the communities to settle down is the cause of these mishaps

Lucky escape! Cutting hills, trees, excavating mountains for stones, leveling of lands to build mansions is all backfiring as the loosened soil gets soggy and dislodges causing multiple landslides along roadsides and nearby housing settlements; this thing, which has been going on from years is going to worsen over the years!!
