Mangalore: Venkatramana Temple's Renovation Works Help Discover Four 500-yr-old Idols

Mangalore, Mar 26: Four 500-year-old idols were found on the attic of sanctum sanctoram of Venkatramana Temple, Carstreet here on Saturday March 26 during works being undertaken as part of the renovation of the temple.

The idols are of Goddess Mahishamardini, Gods Kadegolukrishna, Sheshashayanavishnu and Varaha. These apart, as many as 31 200-year-old idols of Gods Muralidharakrishna, Venkatramana made of Chandana, Hanumantha and Lakshmidevi among others were found. Few conch shells too have been discovered.

Historian Mukund Prabhu, who examine the idols said that these could have been the idols which were once worshipped at homes as deities.

    I dont agree with you, You just go around Carstreet and see you will find many old houses. the Mane devaru Ideal there are bigger than one feet. I know many stories told to me that many family when no one left and the person left and gone to thirtyatra used to give thier land and Ideal to temple. so this is possible.
    You can go to Baba pai family house, Nanda deepa family house and in uma maheshwar temple road many house to tell few.

    one more thing is the person who told is Sri manjeshwar Mukunda prabhu. he is 100 best historian, poligrapher, symbologist, specialist in coins and sea shells in the world. Worldwide people come to him to discuss

    Some of them look big. I do not think they are the ones worshiped at homes. Also normally at homes we will not find stone idols like the one displayed here. Normally such idols are worshiped in temples.
