Mangaluru/Udupi: Rain damage continues in twin districts

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 16: Monsoon intensified once again on Friday in Dakshina Kannada district. Many parts received heavy rains.

Mangaluru city saw intermittent rains. Traffic was affected for some time on National highway at Nantoor as a tree fell across the road. Trees were uprooted at Kapikad, Boloor and Alape. Electricity pole and some vehicles were damaged behind Capitanio school as a tree fell on them.

A house got damaged at Kodaje in Bantwal due to tree fall. More than seven houses were damaged in Beltangady due to landslides. About 24 electricity poles broe at Mundaje Kaup vicinity due to tree falls. Inverter and internet have stopped as there is no power from the past 60 hours.

People of 16 houses living under the limits of Ballarayanadurga of Malavanthige village were scared as they heard a massive sound of landslide.

In Udupi district, moderate rains lashed on Friday. Intermittent rains were seen in Kaup, Padubidri, Kundapur, Karkala, Hebri, Ajekaru, Siddapura, Byndoor, Kundapur and Udupi city. Though the intensity of rain reduced, high velocity winds have caused damages to four houses in Brahmavar taluk, one in Karkala, three each in Byndoor, Kaup and Udupi taluks.

A wooden foot bridge that was installed at Halliberu-Kumkodu across a rivulet was washed away in Kollur gram panchayat limits. More than 50 daily wagers live in the surrounding areas. Now they have lost connection with mainland.
