Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 18: Nearly a month gone by after Princess Miral vessel of Syria sunk into the sea at Battappady of Ullal. In the present weather conditions, the oil that is held in the cargo section of the vessel, will not be emptied till the end of August.

Two separate teams had arrived from Goa and Mumbai and did the spot inspection with regards to removal of oil and other matters pertaining to its salvage.

The ship is stuck to the base of the sea but has not sunk completely. But as the deck is under water, expert operation is required to enter the vessel.

Tugboat Waterlilly of water transport ministry is stationed at NMPT. The main aim of this is to prevent or restrict the oil spillage, in case if it happens. Coast guard and police are also keeping watch on the vessel.

The crew of the ship are in the city itself as their repatriation process is not yet complete. Representatives of the ship owner are putting in all efforts in this regard and they are likely to be repatriated next week.

I hope the authorities put an oil boom around the vessel. So even if there is an oil leak the oil will be contained around the ship and will not spread.

There are some very skilled persons in Kulur, Panamboor and Thannirbavi area who are able to drill holes on live gas and petroleum products underground pipes and siphon off the loot without anybody noticing it. When such skill is locally avaiable where is the need for getting specialists from elsewhere? Just contact them through the local police. They will not only empty all the oil from the sunken ship, but even from the ships that pass by if you give them a green signal. Some of their names appeared in the eveningers a few years ago.

Spot on ..Remember there was a timber mafia around these areas ,stealing Malaysian wood which was imported ... They also steal the Granites from the Yard .. This is done in connivance of some insiders in these yards and surrounding areas. A raid to local bars with closets is likely to reveal more

We only have to hope and pray that oil contained is secured well and will not spill... Also this incident happened in the shallow seas as the base has already touched the sea base... This makes salvage operations easier... Only thing to watch is for the wave movements that the ship does not sway sideways thus disturbing the status of the oil containment...
