Lok Sabha proceedings adjourned till 2 pm


New Delhi, Jul 18 (IANS): Soon after the Monsoon Session began on Monday, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 p.m. on Monday.

The House was adjourned due to the ongoing voting to elect the 15th President of India. Speaker Om Birla said the House proceedings will resume afterwards.

Earlier, the newly elected members of Parliament took the oath. Speaker Om Birla congratulated them and said that there is no vacant seat in the House at present.

New MPs, who took oath are Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi, BJP, from Rampur (Uttar Pradesh); Dinesh Lal Yadav 'Nirauha', BJP, from Azamgarh, UP; Shatrughan Prasad Sinha, Trinamool Congress, from Asansol, West Bengal; and Simranjit Singh Mann, Akali Dal (Amritsar), from Sangrur, Punjab.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also paid tribute to former Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was assassinated on July 8 during a campaign rally. Birla also paid tributes to former UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and former Kenya President Mwai Kibaki.
