Mangaluru: Keshav Suvarna’s artwork to feature in temple procession at Texas USA

Mangaluru, Jul 19: Dakshina Kannada is always known for producing various talents in every profession but only minimal artists will be recognized globally. In every corner of the district, we can witness creative artists who are contributing during the time of festivals in the form of tableaux.

People eagerly wait for festive seasons where families get opportunities to enjoy together. One can witness colourful processions during festivals like Navaratri, Ganesh Chaturthi and Sri Krishna Janmastami. The artists make the procession more colourful through their art work in the tableaux.

Keshav Suvarna, an artist from Kandoor near Melkar who is a proprietor of Sathyasri’s Fibre Art, Sathyasri Kala Balaga has a vast experience in the art profession since 32 years. Keshav’s hard work is finally paying off, as his art work will reach Texas, United States of America for the forthcoming festive season.

Keshav credits Suhas Aithal from BC Road who is in the US for the recognition of his art work. Keshav’s work will now reach America. In a few months’ time, many festivals are lined up. Indians in America will celebrate festivals grandly. Under the guidance of Raghuram Bhat, priest of Sri Krishna Brindavana temple, Texas, the festival will feature the art work made out of fibre. The same will be sent to Texas in two days.

Keshav, with the help of other five workers, have prepared a 12 feet model of Udupi Sri Krishna Math and other artworks such as Astabuja Devi, Kadagolu Krishna and many more which are required for the tableaux during the festive season.

Keshav has prepared the idols and art work in parts so that the organizers in Texas can assemble them easily. He and his team took two months to prepare the idols required in Texas. Keshav will also send a demo video to the organizers on how to fix the idols which will be sent to Texas.

 The contract has been given to DHL who will send the art works to Texas via Chennai port.

Keshav initially learnt the art on a board in Bengaluru. Gradually, he picked up the knack to prepare tableaux during Ganesh Chaturthi processions. Now he has turned an expert in the profession. His art works can be seen in the tableaux procession during festive seasons across the state in places like Kudroli, Mangaladevi and Madikeri. In Madikeri, his art work was recognized and bagged a hat trick of awards in three years for best art work.

Keshav has also worked as an art director in 28 films including a Kannada movie ‘Aham Premasmi’ under Ravichandran. Apart from that, Keshav has worked in Tulu movies Rickshaw Driver, Amber Caterers, Chaali Polilu, and also a Konkani movie, Ek Aslyar Ek Na where he bagged the best art director award.
