Byndoor: Shiroor toll plaza accident – Case filed against ambulance driver

Daijiworld Media Network – Byndoor (MS)

Byndoor, Jul 22: A case is filed against Roshan Rodrigues, the driver of the ambulance which toppled at Shiroor toll plaza in which four persons were killed.

Roshan Rodrigues is discharged from the hospital, while four others are still recovering from injuries. The case is filed on Roshan based on the complaint given by toll gate personnel Deepak Shetty.

The accident occurred due to the negligence and high speed of the driver and a case under IPC sections 279, 338 and 304 is booked against the driver at Byndoor police station.

The public is questioning the behaviour of the toll gate personnel who delayed the removal of barricades and did not drive away the cow that was sitting in the lane. When an ambulance approaches the sound of siren can be heard from a distance of 500 meter and the toll gate personnel did not react quickly enough say the public. In addition, two barricades should not be kept at emergency lane which is used only for emergency vehicles and VIPs.

There is also suspicion that the ambulance did not have ABS (Anti-lock Breaking System). The ambulance is a three year old Tata Winger vehicle and it should possess ABS. If brakes with ABS is applied, it will bring the vehicle under control. But in this case the vehicle toppled instead of coming to screeching halt. So all are suspecting that ambulance did not have ABS.

Byndoor police are investigating further.

Now the question is cow saves or God saves ? Probably good prayers at beginning of the journey, God would have send angels or used toll staff as angels to remove cow and barricade at the earliest or at right time! Sometimes God also tests or allows situation like this to open the spiritual eyes of many!

It should be borne in mind that an ambulance driver may be under immense psychological pressure from the patient's relatives, some even wailing, who just want to rush him to the hospital! Ambulance drivers should be be emotionally strong and able to maintain their cool and drive with utmost caution, while speeding, considering our road conditions!!

Express lane is to avoid traffic! I think ambulances or any VIP’s crossing tollgate must slow down where CCTV’s can scan /record all the activities occurring in these lanes else they may miss use these privileges with illegal activities.

After accidents and deaths, injuries so many issues are pointed out . Finally the driver is accused and everyone makes him a scapegoat. So its better to fix a speed limit to ambulances which was carry patients.

I saw the video, there is lot of water where the Ambulance started to Skid, its normal for a guy who speeds to suddenly get afraid and lose control and things like this happen. for the matter only Ambulance ahs legal right to go fast. Maybe even the condition of the patient must made the ambulance to drive fast. also what as the water doing there and also > even concrete roads get algae if there is lot of water, there is a road near Thokkottu which is concretized and slips.

It is a chain of incidents leading to the loss of 4 lives. But the primary cause looking at the video, tue ambulance was just speeding beyond reason. An Ambulance driver must be careful

The one who was striving to save the lives has become the villain now due inefficiencies of the system. Ambulance is not a Bull-Cart or a Road Roller which can take its own time to reach the hospital for saving the lives. He could have lost his life too in this horrific incident, God is great, he is alive today. Now the system is trying to kill or murder him by trying to save the Toll Gate Management, GoMatha and its Owner. If you are really concerned, Put a case on the Tollgate Manager and also on the Go-Matha and its Owner, who let it to take rest or sleep on the Road!!! Jai Hind!!!

Wakeup from deep slumber man. Cow is national symbol for winning elections. Also it gives much needed foreign exchange and good amount of party funds to a political party. Many are surviving by Gowmatha protection brigade. There are many more advantages from cows. Indian Humans are only for voting nothing more than that.

Why should the ambulance driver be held responsible? His job is to drive fast (ofcourse with responsibility). If the vehicle was not with ABS, then the RTO should be held responsible to approving such a vehicle for ambulance purpose. If the cow is sitting on an emergency lane then the toll plaza should be held responsible. The BJP government too is responsible here as they should have created a separate lane for cows.

There is a cow involved in this accident. People keep cows just to milk and let the cows feed on garbage on the roadside. These cows pose safety issues to the motorist. Can the authorities penalize the cow owner? Just asking.....

i think the toll gate employees were busy on social media and that is why they could not clear the track...out and out negligence of toll gate employees...but we cannot file case against them as they are almost all namma jana...here the driver is majority...so padle oithhh aye porbuna mitt case...the toll company must have told khakis and also must have given some baksheesh...that is the end of the story..

In India, especially in DK few people bother to give way or importance to an ambulance which is desperate to reach the critical patient to the hospital!

This calls for improved licensing norms for the ambulance drivers... Unless it is zero traffic emergency they must slow down near unpredictable locations like toll plazas... Also driver must be trained to drive in rainy conditions... Roshan was definitely speeding at the critical location more than he could negotiate... All other factors leading to the accidents are secondary... It is the right decision to book him....

First you have to bear in mind that this is India where rules, only on paper, are meant to be flouted!! People care two hoots for an ambulance; they will understand only when one of their dear ones gets critical and is transported by an ambulance!!

Is it right to have a cow sitting on the way of Toll gate ? whose Responsibility to clear it ? , then you can book driver , but ambulance driver with emergency condition drive fast as it is their top priority , when an ambulance siren was heard why Road was not clear

I would agree with you, ambulances should also follow all traffic rules. They are meant to save life not take lives. Usually people ( not cows) give way to ambulances, but I have see many ambulances using sirens when there is no patient inside.

Monty, empty ambulances blowing sirens may be due to the fact that they have to reach fast to attend an emergency call?

Careless management by the Shiroor toll is the reason for the accident. When the ambulance came near there was people movement and even the cow stated to move. The only option was to put sudden breaks.

This is totally wrong, the case should be filed against toll employees, it is there responsibility to make sure the toll lanes should be clear 24*7 for any kind of traffic, and shiroor toll not so busy toll there is ample of time.

The driver is at fault at the same time the toll plaza people are also a reason for this accident. When that lane is meant for emergency what was the cow doing on that lane? Where they so lazy to chaze that cow away? Instead of keeping barricades why dont they put that Automnatic gate at the begining it self so that know has to run just to remove those barricades. Even case needs to booked on the toll plaza employees also.

Why case is not filed against the toll plaza company and thier employees??? There is an automated barrier already. What is the need of have two additional barricades at the start and end of the lane???? Also how did they let the cow sleep in between the lane??? All this on an emergency lane??? I doubt if they planted the cow there to avoid somebody else using the emergency lane there by losing their revenue?
