Droupadi Murmu takes oath as 15th President of India

New Delhi, Jul 25 (IANS): Droupadi Murmu on Monday took oath as the 15th President of India.

Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana administered the oath of office to Murmu in the Central Hall of Parliament.

Outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind and Murmu arrived in Parliament in a ceremonial procession shortly before the swearing in commenced.

She is scheduled to deliver an address later.

Before leaving for the swearing-in ceremony, Murmu reached the Rashtrapati Bhavan, her home and office for the next five years, where she was welcomed by Kovind and his wife Savita.

The outgoing President had then escorted Murmu to the Presidential study for a brief meeting.

Earlier in the morning, Murmu paid tributes to the father of nation Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Members of the Council of Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers, heads of diplomatic missions, MPs and principal civil and military officers of the government are in attendance at the swearing in ceremony.

    Welcome to a new Indian Woman President..We know nothing about her .Origin of course.But nothing else.Can anyone highlight about her post till now ,education ?Usually their spouse will accompany them by Oath.I didnt see any .So I am very much interested to know about her.

    Chandu, Karla well said ! Calling Western countries by names and criticizing in English as a medium of education . Wearing Western designed garments boot, suit. We are progressing in Go shalas and Cattle Urine & Cow dung. I am of the opinion that almost 80 Billio remittance in Dollars is coming from people employed in Arab countries. Ao many educated Hindus have settled Christian foreign countries, enjoying Jersy super burgers, Roast Beef Burgers, Pork products wine and dine in spite of that blaming Western countries. shame less or sarcasm !

    While as a Presidential Post of a major country like INDIA commendable -- The Tribals forming approx 8 % of population -- regularly evicted for big projects -- land grab -- mining -- Dams -- forest rights denied -- exploitation-- The TRIBALS suffer in what is now Proverbial known as --"Natural Resource Curse".-- Large companies make huge profits but the Indigenous people do not get even a small percent -- not even in decimals -- In addition face violence -- other atrocities-- HOPE THE PRESIDENT ELECT TAKES CARE AND PROTECTS HER OWN --NOT TOKENISM --

    Arasu are you Mysore Raja ? (Arasu- Odeyaru)) I am abroad on employment and not a permanent resident nor migrated to any foreign country. I have equal rights and freedom of expression as much as you seal with. The way you spoke out as if your forefathers participated in freedom struggle. With my comments thumhara kya jaatha hai. Are you sure that India's President has any role to act and decide on her own opposing the cabinet or PM's likely wrong decision ? Never He or she just have to affix the rubber stamp to pass any act or resolution . You yourself know better being in the country. If you have any wisdom please explain. Do not simply contradict with non related explanation.

Meanwhile, because of this progress all the children of the rich and affluent are running away to Europe and Americas for better life...... under your so called slave Masters.

    You mean to say is your forefathers fought for our independence? Were the forefathers of the politicians who are running the govt now, at present fought for independence? Yeah??? There are so many even in the community in which Flavian belongs to have fought for our country. Please google and get the right facts to upgrade your knowledge. Dont call us European slaves blah blah.... We know exactly who were the slave when britishers were here. I dont have to write again... Evenif our forefathers didnt fight....we too are paying the taxes same like others ON TIME and SYSTEMATICALLY. Most of the people went abroad leaving their families behind here. They are Working under terrible heat and go through other so many complications. By doing so, they improved our country's std. Of life unlike your some notorious people looted banks and ran away....pushing govt and people ...towards DEBTS AND INFLATION.

    Arasu Mangalore ,why we bother about India when we are not residing in India?First of all India is our mother country.Thatswhy we do bother whats going on and we do have the type of responsibility to vote too.That itself brings us to ask ,to protest or responsibility with it to know who is who and why.Foreign country is not our mother land will be never.We might or decide one fine day to return for good .Thatswhy we like to know who is where and why.We do bring in money ..
