Bommai cancels one-year celebrations of govt 'Janotsava' over BJP worker's death

Bengaluru, Jul 28 (IANS): Amid the tensions over brutal murder of a BJP youth wing worker in Karnataka, the state Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced cancellation of all the events planned for celebrating the completion of his first year in office.

Bommai had taken over as Chief Minister in July 28, 2021, after B.S. Yeddyurappa had stepped down on July 26, 2021.

The celebrations planned for Thursday included functions at the Vidhana Soudha, and the Janotsava at Doddaballapura.

"I said I will address a press conference instead of celebrations," Bommai said on early Thursday morning at his residence.

Sources said this political development comes in the backdrop of the massive protests by BJP workers over the murder of a party worker on Tuesday.

BJP Yuva Morcha member Praveen Kumar Nettaru in Dakshina Kannada district of the state, was hacked to death for allegedly supporting slain tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Rajasthan recently.

This is the latest in a series of violent deaths of youth supporting the ruling BJP government in Karnataka.

On Wednesday, several BJP youth wing members had submitted their resignations over the inability of the party to protect its own workers.

@ Pavan, Mlr - Well said ! These are called genuine feelings and emotions felt and being expressed, unlike most who go with party name Hindutva logic. Peoples and Countries interest first. Religion for self and in the house. First act as a tru citizen of the country.

Some organization even gives threats to police saying 'if police cannot control entry of teens into the Bar" they have the capacity to take up the job in their hands, superseding the rule of Law .😕 Goons are given free hand. ?

Why are you not banning SDPI and PFI if you think these organisation's behind this act. Stop blaming congress and Siddaramaiah. We don't want to hear blame games. Do not play political game to get some more votes. Catch the real culprit. Canceling celebration will not give justice to his family and friends. For my understanding congress is better than BJP. Atleast siddanna gave the people friendly governance in his tenure. In his tenure he gave a maximum governance to common people. BJP failed on both CASES.

BJP leaders who are in power and other leaders who are enjoying perks have forgotten day to day field workers -- Grass root level workers -- living in luxury -- convoy of cars -- houses etc -- owning various assets -- enjoy all security -- Many leaders children -- study abroad -- work abroad -- Patriotism from a distance -- So the poor grass root level worker suffering -- intimidation -- now death --

BJP would have had double celebrations, if only 20 year old Masood died by hands of sangh parivar goons of that area, which only occurred a few days ago...problem now is a BJP party worker also killed in retaliation (assuming he's killed by SDPI as per media reports) and now BJP cannot take mileage out of this murder, because it is tit for tat murder like gang warfare.

Today the attacks and killings of muslims have been normalized. There are reports every 24x7 muslims are being attacked mostly in northern parts which we been able to know from few social media and YouTube channels but mainstream national media deliberately trying to put in under the carpet.
