Mangaluru: Scouts, Guides President’s certificate – Results not announced since five years

Mangaluru, Jul 28: Five years have elapsed since the union office not holding President’s medal examination for Bharat Scouts-Guides Rovers, Rangers cadets, who qualify at state level. The last examination was held in the academic year 2016-17, but its result are not yet announced. Though the parents of the children and the state chief of Scouts and Guides contacted the Delhi central office several times, no progress was made. Due to this, the students are deprived of the CET entrance reservation for Scouts and Guides students.

Every year high school students write state and national level tests for Scouts and Guides, while PU students write for Rovers, Rangers and Cadettes. Various training and examinations are there to quality these tests. Students take leave from school and colleges for 20 to 25 days and attend various camps. Till 2015, these examinations were held without fail. However, from 2016 it seems as if the central office is not bothered about holding the examinations or announcing the results of examinations that were held five years ago.

Nearly 4,000 students wrote the presidents medal examination for scouts and guides all over the country in 2016-17. All students get certificates signed by the President. This helps in securing reservation in engineering, medical and dental colleges.

CET quota for Karnataka students is not available since 2016 for the same reason. Only Karnataka and Orissa have reservations for scouts and guides in the whole country. During CET entrance, six engineering and two each dental and medical seats were given to scouts and guides students who have got President's certificate.

Though the state government holds scouts and guides examinations, it cannot give reservation as it is only for those who get the President’s certificate.
