Mangaluru, Jul 31: The Mangaluru City police have arrested one more suspect for the inquiry in connection with the murder of Fazil (23), a resident of Mangalpete.
City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar has confirmed the arrest of the car owner.
According to highly placed sources, the car owner is identified as Ajith Crasta. Meanwhile sources have disclosed that apart from Ajith, four more accused have been arrested and another, the prime accused is still on the run.
After questioning him he will be produced before the magistrate and for further inquiry, he will be taken back to police custody, he added.
"On the basis of CCTV cameras, and other leads we had seized eight cars of the same company and colour. Later, the owners of the cars were subjected to inquiry. In the interrogation, we came to know of the owner who had given the car to one of the accused in the case. After further inquiry, he will be produced before the magistrate. To know more about this case, we will seek for his police custody. On the information given by the car owner, our investigation teams are heading to detain the other suspects", Shashi Kumar said.
It is said that the car owner had a good relationship with one of the accused in the case. In the past too he had taken his car, the commissioner added.
It may be recalled that Fazil was hacked to death in Surathkal on July 28 night. The miscreants who came in an Eon car have executed the crime.
So far the police have detained 21 people for the inquiry in connection to the murder.
According to sources the police department has gathered proper leads to crack the case.
