Tumakuru/Bhatkal, Aug 1: National Investigation Agency (NIA) held huge operation on Sunday, July 31 in seven states including Karnataka in order to find ‘Digital activists’ of banned terrorist outfit ISIS.
NIA sleuths raided Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district and two places in Tumakuru and interrogated three suspects on the accusation of having online connection with ISIS. The officials served notice to the suspects and asked them to attend inquiry.

The sleuths of NIA raided the house of Sajid Makrani, native of Maharashtra, who is studying in third year in HMS Unani college of Tumakuru. Around 20 officials raided the house at around 4 am. He is accused of having contact with ISIS in order to strengthen their base in India. After six hours of checking, Sajid was brought to NIA office in Bengaluru. He was interrogated till 9 pm and service notice asking him to attend inquiry in New Delhi. House owner Rangaswamy said that four people, including Sajid Makrani had taken the house on rent.
At Bhatkal, NIA sleuths took into custody two brothers and served them notice to appear for inquiry in Delhi. Abdul Muktadir and his brother, residents of Bhatkal main road were taken into custody at around 5 am on Sunday and subjected to long interrogation.
The siblings were taken to Manki for interrogation. It is reported that Abdul Mukadir is involved in printing work. It is said that he had soft corner for ISIS and used to post comments in favour of the banned terrorist group. He was taken into custody on the suspicion that he was translating ISIS literature. Now he is warned and sent as per the NIA sources.
Three suspects in Karnataka who are accused of having connection with ISIS are said to translate ISIS literature from Arabic to local languages, including Kannada. In addition, it is alleged that they were in touch with ISIS through MTO app. The suspects used to allegedly translate provocative literature of ISIS to Kannada, Marathi, Urdu and other languages. They used to send the same through online itself. In addition, they used to post the same on social media. Whether they were being paid for this work is yet to be ascertained.
