Beijing, April 5 (IANS) Graves would now be put out on lease for a maximum of 70 years depending on the condition of land at the grave site, China's ministry of civil affairs has said.
This period would be similar to the maximum duration of land leases in China.
A lease can be renewed and extended after its expiration, Xinhua reported citing a ministry statement.
The ministry said the statement was issued to clarify misunderstandings caused by media reports that said leased graves could only be used for no longer than 20 years.
