Kundapur: Pillion rider falls off, dies as biker tries to avoid hitting cow on road

Kundapur, Aug 12: A school teacher died when the bike on which she was riding pillion with her husband, skid and fell as a cow came across the road suddenly. The incident occurred on Thursday August 11.

Ambika (32), an assistant teacher at Hemmadi government model higher primary school, is the unfortunate victim of this tragedy.

On Thursday August 11 morning, as usual, Ambika was going to her school, along with her husband Srikanth, who is also a teacher at Navundra government higher primary school on their bike. As they reached Vandse, a cow suddenly ran across the road. Srikanth lost control and the bike skid and both fell on the road.

Ambika, who was riding pillion sustained severe injuries to her head. Srikanth received minor injuries. Ambika was rushed to a private hospital in Udupi. But she succumbed to injuries late in the night.

Ambika, who started her teaching career at Hemmady school in 2018, was loved by her students. She is survived by husband and a one-and-half-year-old child.

    Sustained head injury which means she wasn't wearing helmet. Cows taking priority for votes and roaming the roads causing mishaps should be banned first so that no cattle are easy prey to cattle thieves.

    Dylan mangalore,dont forget about the speed one travels..Of course potholes ,cows less ,but the way one rides too ,and other vehicles hitting from behind.May her souls rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to her family.specially one child.Too small to understand what happened to her mother .

    A sad death, RIP Teacher Ambika. Several highway road deaths in the last decade due to pillion rides. Maybe it is time to ban pillion rides on highways...

    peril of living in country where cow is greater matha than human matha...this kind of incident will be unheard of in developed countries...where animals are not allowed to roam on streets....have lived in gulf country so I have seeen it first hand...such a young lady died just because of stupid cow owner who left it on the roads...but people under the nagpur gulam govt give importance to cow as matha and the matha of small child died because of it...god knows when these kind of incidents are taken seriously and the concerned cow owner is punished...
