Mumbai, Apr 14: Bharat Kumar Polipu, stage artiste and honorary secretary of metro-based Karnataka Sangh was awarded doctorate for his thesis - Study on Kannada theatre in metro.

Bharat Kumar Polipu prepared the thesis at the guidance of Dr G N Upadhya, head of department of Kannada in Mumbai University.

Bharat Kumar is a native of Polipu village in Dakshina Kannada district. He is a writer, stage artiste, organizer and well known among the Kannadigas’ settled in metro. He had done his BCom from Poornaprajna College, Udupi and secured first class in MA from Mumbai University. He has been a creative director of theatre who was privileged to work with veteran directors – B R Nagesh, Udyavar Madhav Acharya, Prasanna and Srinivas Prabhu. He has bagged Ratnamma Heggade Award for his Tulu play, Arundhati.

He has been actively involved in Kannada theatre in the metro since two decades. He is also a critic whose views are published in Kannada daily – Karnataka Malla and other Kannada magazines including evening newspapers. His dramas are staged in the metro, New Delhi, Tumkur, Belgaum and Dharwad. 

Karnataka Sangh former president Manohar M Kori, presidents G D Joshi, former honorary treasurer B G Nayak, P G Burde, Mumbai University Kannada research students – Poornima Shetty, Jyothi Devadiga, Eshwar Alevoor, Vidhushi Shyamala Prakash, Srinivas Jokatte, Mohan Marnad, Avinash Kamat and Rajeev Nayak, office bearers of Karnataka Sangh and all artistes of Kala Bharati congratulated Bharat Kumar Polipu on the occasion.
