Mangaluru: Car alone women targeted by gang during late night in city

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Aug 31: A gang which draws the attention of women driving alone in the car after 10 PM or with a female accomplice, and con them is active in the city.

On the night of Wednesday, August 24, a woman was driving her car after attending a programme at the Lion’s Club in the city via Nanthoor, Paduva highway. At the same time, a bike-borne youth followed her for some distance and was honking repeatedly.

When the woman looked at him near Paduva college, he said, “The bolts of your car tyres are loose. It may cause trouble. Stop the car.”

The woman got panicky, stopped her car and checked. But nothing was wrong with the car bolts. Yet the youth asked her to give the iron rod kept in the car and said that the tyres were shaky and that he would tighten the nuts of the wheel. As the woman gave him the lever, he was loosening the bolts instead of tightening them. The woman got furious and took the youth to task.

In the meantime, a truck passing by parked near the woman's car. The youth escaped from the spot sensing danger. After hearing this incident, some other women confided that they had faced incidents near Kadri, Bunts Hostel and Karangalpady.

Dr Kedige Aravinda Rao brought this matter to the notice of city police commissioner N Shashikumar. He immediately sent two police staff to the victim woman and collected all the details. The commissioner also assured that the police in civil dress will conduct an undercover operation to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

This and many similar distraction tactics are being used in Mumbai since decades; now they are getting imported into smaller cities where the awareness level is very low and gullible public getting conned are very high!

By god’s grace the woman driver was not hit with the iron rod and anything could have happened.. even if this chap was arrested later suffering and any eventuality is unthinkable... Many good suggestions given ....already .. possibly record on mobile at least number plate of two wheeler etc ..etc .. Possibly in such a situation to immediately call near and dear ones .. The other person will see this and possibly scoot .if criminal minded .... Not panic .. inform Exact location .. then if conditions ok can move to a safer place and check ..... All in all while we know yesteryear’s mangalore was peaceful..safe ... We have a sizeable floating population.. outside state characters .. no gooders ...looking for quick easy money .... for Committing crimes is least of their worries . ..(....in general .. not always ..we can say these are acts of not local people .. meaning who have lived one or two generations in mangalore..or surrounding...).. If possible take longer routes but not.. Lonely.. dark . Roads with no lights ...

Mangalore need rapid police department and must have speed dialing facility. Police should not ask any questions but only spot and they should reach with in few minutes. If the person trying to run just shot them. But please we do not want moral evil police please.

Some basic rules to be adhered to not only by single lady drivers, but also by single men drivers when driving on a lonely street, specially in the night. First, no matter what, at night, even if you have a flat tyre, or even more, if someone knocks/signals to say something, don’t stop your car. Drive to a spot, where there is a crowd and then inspect. Decent and well-meaning gentlemen, will accept your reactions. You have anyway driven thus far with a flat tyre, if that is true, continue a little further to a well-lit junction having a crowd or Cops over there. Second, if stopping the car is unavoidable (best not to), never lower the car window panes more than half an inch, just enough for the so-called well-wishers voice to be audible. Then, no matter what, just thank him and drive to a safe and supervised area for checking things out if required. Safe driving

Smart city with smart decievers. Hope CC Cameras and cellphone locaters will give away these miscreants. Before you start the car check tyres and lights are in working order to avoid being duped. Same way aware nobody is watching when you are opening your wallet in any place and don't fall for usual tactics of fallen currency notes to snatch your bag.

Sad to see the state of Mangalore which lack of law and order situation which is very concerned. One side communalism and other side unwanted matters are pops up. Never heard such things 20years ago in Mangalore. I lived many part of the world but when law and order. Situation lacks problems starts and when religious based politics mixed it’s become harder for many to control the situation. Pray for peace

People's innocence is the main reason they fall into trouble. First mistake she stop, second she came out when there's nobody on the road, 3rd she gave the iron rod to that stranger without even a second thought. She is a fool
