Udupi, Sep 3: Personnel of Sakhi centre in the town were successful in making the family of a deceased man agree to take care of his wife and child.

Family members of deceased Aiyappa, arrived in the city on Friday September 2 and took his wife and a month-old baby after going through the legal process.

Social worker Vishu Shetty Ambalpady appreciated the efforts of administrator and personnel of Sakhi centre in convincing the family of the deceased husband to accept the widow and child.

Aiyappa (28), of Badami origin, was working as a mechanic for many years in the city and died of sudden cardiac arrest on August 25. His family did not accept his wife and 20 day-old baby saying that they married against the will of the family. Social worker Vishu Ambalpady got the widow and child admitted to Sakhi one stop centre and appealed to concerned departments to get her justice.

Geetha, wife of deceased Aiyappa was depressed as she could not attend the final rites of her husband as well as her future was in doldrums as the husband’s family also denied to accept her and the child.

The team at Sakhi one centre looked after Geetha and the child in a humane manner and instilled confidence in her. They held continuous talks with her deceased husband’s family and were finally successful on Friday in convincing them to accept Geetha and the month-old baby.

The family of deceased Aiyappa arrived at Sakhi one stop centre on Friday and gave written assurance that they will look after Geetha and the child in a loving manner and also get Geetha re-married if she wishes as she is too young. The whole legal process was undertaken in the presence of staff of Udupi women police station.

Social worker Vishu Ambalpady says that the effort of Sakhi centre personnel is commendable as the wife and child of deceased Aiyappa are able to get shelter and care.
